Mach-E front motor dead at 33.5K

Not sure what you’re saying? You think CR can track EV better than ICE for some reason?

CR does not track reliability very long. They also rank all problems with equal weight - ie the interior light or ECU quit - same to them.

It’s been covered on its own thread here many times and seems most members here have the same experience that I do.
You commented you have vehicles on the bottom of that list. Those are electric vehicles on the bottom of that list so I said I didn’t know you had electric vehicles?

Many comments about consumer reports without people actually reading it. Number one consumer reports does nothing but send out surveys to their members, their members answer those surveys. They do not report unless a significant amount of people reply by some mathematical formula. So if you see something one year, but not a significantly statistical response for a particular year on a product they will not publish those results.

Furthermore, every single aspect of the electric vehicle is reported by the owner. Including the driveline, a completely separate question.
The motor, another completely separate question and that Mach E motor received an excellent score of five out of five

For people who comment on consumer reports, they need to know the publication before commenting. I would be glad to post a screenshot of the results of the electric vehicles and the breakdown of the specific components that are answered by the people who respond to the surveys. It would make things so much easier for me.. it took a long time for me to type those results.

However, it is copyrighted material, so the publication itself cannot be copied and posted elsewhere. Consumer Reports does not allow reprint of their material and clearly not allowed here either for that reason

For the record except when I was 17 years old, I never owned a Ford vehicle and I am not defending Ford. I’m just saying it’s quite possible the OP got a defective motor. Defective motors happen in every single vehicle on planet earth but it doesn’t mean they’re all bad.

No, I said very specifically my most reliable vehicles had low CR scores. Read it again for yourself.
my two most reliable vehicles ever had low CR scores.

I am quite familiar with the CR process and surveys are extremely unreliable based on the actual question, person filling it out, a the person tabulating the votes. It’s also very self selecting - ie not random and hence impossible to assign confidence numbers to. CR is pretty unreliable IMHO and shared by many here.

Feel free have your own opinion.

Exactly everybody has their own opinion. And I find social media full of opinions, but lack scientific analysis based on the tiny of smallest actual sampling.

I’m not trying to be a wise ____
“my two most reliable vehicles ever had low CR scores.”

Am I missing something or do you have a typo? Using the word “ever” is that meant to be “never”
Call me crazy I’m just not understanding but I better get out of BITOG for now

Yeah I stopped paying attention to CR for that reason. Cars with solid reliability on major components like powertrain getting dinged for little minor issues like seatbelt or radio etc.

I think what he's trying to say is,

"Some of the most reliable vehicles I've owned, actually weren't rated well for reliability by CR"

I can agree with that!
Personally, I’m a Chevy Person
Why? Because I have had my share of import cars over the years, mostly the earlier years in all fairness. I’ve had more engine trouble with those vehicles. The hardware and controls might last forever, but I have had very costly engine repairs.

My GM vehicles, overtime the knob might fall off for the heat and air or a window motor, rattle here or there, but I never had an engine or a transmission failure. Never had to replace an exhaust system.
Most of all my 2017 traverse still drives like a dream on the interstate and I mean like up to 97 miles an hour is the most I ever pushed it plus with the factory tow package it easily handles 5000 pounds at what I call a bargain price.

My wife’s 2025 equinox has all the bells and whistles and is really amazing. I just hope it stays that way as the years go on because with all these cars I think there’s way too many electronics now.

Before the traverse was a Dodge Durango, it was the smaller V8, I think you could tow up to 7000 pounds and we had a pretty heavy 24 foot boat at the time that it handled with ease.
Same deal the truck never needed a repair until it hit roughly 140,000 miles at that point it was time to move on. The engine still rock solid, but the expected radiator would go, alternator and it was just time for a new truck, even though it was in perfect condition otherwise. Looking back I really liked the vehicle more truck truck like.

I used to be a CR subscriber, a long time ago. It was fun to read, but that's about it. It is not a proper scientific survey, by definition. But CR can be used as a data point.

Personally, I became suspicious when a given vehicle was great one year and a dog the next. Also, their groupings were poorly or not defined, rendering them meaningless. Quien sabe?

I just did a quick look and it appears its very rare for a Tesla motor to fail. Same with Mach E but I noticed more noise on forums for the Ford than Tesla. My .02.

My two most reliable vehicles ever were deemed unreliable by CR. A 1996 Olds and my Xterra. The Xterra especially are loved by their owners for being very long term reliable.

I apologize if my statement was confusing.

Given Ford's track record of parts availability, it wouldn't shock me if the motor becomes discontinued after a few years.

I ran into this problem with a Lincoln LS. The part being unavailable anywhere mechanically totaled it. I traded it and someone got the used part and did the work themselves which was going to be $2500 in labor for a part that has a high failure rate. I still see it drive around town occasionally, but Ford doesn't inspire confidence to keep the cars on the road. I owned a few more Fords after this and all have been problematic except my F150.

TL: DR version: front motor is dead and will need to be replaced, waiting on parts from the mothership in meat chicken (say it fast, you'll get it).

I was going to post the video from the service advisor at the local Ford dealer but you can see my phone number in the work order at the start of the video, and the video isn't downloadable to edit it out. Maybe there's someone here smarter than me that can figure out how to do it.

There's motor ATF coming out of multiple joints including the PCM connector and they can hear the grinding noise my wife experienced, so it's got to be replaced. They had about 5 or 6 PO codes on the work order also.

Browsing the Mach-E forums it seems there have been a spate of motor failures. I haven't seen the same on the Lightning forums, so it seems maybe this is a Mach-E issue and not a Ford issue. In our case it's never seemed quite right, there has been a whine at certain RPMs that didn't sound right to me, I actually asked them to look at it when it was back for a software recall about 6-9 months ago. They said they couldn't find anything wrong.

The motors are warrantied for 8 years 100K. The buyout on the car is $19K at the end of the lease and with the increase in used EV prices recently it's looking like a better deal to keep it. The results of this repair will be informative as to whether we will keep it or not though. If the motors are quiet when we get it back then I'll lean towards keeping it. If it still whines at certain speed ranges I'm almost certain to dump it, I don't want recurrent motor issues, 8/100 warranty or not.
Dump it at Lease end. Later tech will be better. Saw one on the side or the road, recently. Ymmv.

Tesla has mostly solved their early motor issues with coolant leaks and so forth. The aftermarket has moved in to help with the early motors, as well, with coolant bypass kits. There seems to be no ill effects for older Model S owners who have done the coolant bypass.

Perhaps the other manufacturers are still in the teething stage on motor issues.

On the other hand, the Cybertruck has had widespread motor/drive unit failures. The Out of Spec Cybertruck needed BOTH the front and rear drive units replaced in the first 1 year / 27,000 miles

We're an "OK Google" shop at my house ;)
I gotta tell you, I had a lot of android phones up until gosh it must be getting close to maybe 10 years. I’m just guessing.
I love Apple devices, but one thing for sure. Siri sucks with voice to text even now back then I always thought android devices were better at that.
I think all my family members agree with me too🫤

You may remember me, saying this, I absolutely loved the Xterra
Before moving south in 2005 we made a number of trips to the Lake Murray area of South Carolina one of those weeks. The rental was an Xterra and I always wanted one after that.
I figured one day the day would come until it no longer did🫤 kind of funny. I know sales were dropping off, but I think in today’s market oh never mind I think it would sell, but who knows

I tried switching for being able to Facetime with family members, but I'm just too far gone with being a 15+ year Android user, plus we're pretty hardcore into the Google ecosystem. I just couldn't take it on an iPhone, took a loss money wise to go back to Android and I haven't tried having a personal iPhone again. This was around 2018 or 2019, IIRC.

I've had multiple work iPhones and they're fine for that. I even like having the Apple News app, it's better than anything Google has. But making them work with my deep Google ecosystem integration around the house, with my personal photo and document storage and with the phone functionality is just too much.

Plus Apple is building their next gen AI on Google's Gemini, enough said.

Didn't know this, and I hate this wrap on Kyle's truck. May as well as just left it stock.

I like the Cybertrucks wrapped in black, I think they look sharp that way.
