M1A1 air filters

Wow,

After reading all the posts of the upgraded Si levels caused in part by K&N filters I may upgrade or 'downgrade' to a Donaldson.

The M1A1 article on the Donaldson filter is quite interesting. In the 1st Persian Gulf war it said tank crews had to change the early style filters every 10-15miles!!! Talk about a pain in the neck when under fire or in a rapid advance.

Bearing that in mind I wonder if the K&N on the Apaches had to be cleaned or replaced after EVERY Mission??? However, i could be misunderstanding the K&N on the Apaches.

They could have been interior cabin air filters or actual Engine Filters? I have seen the engines on Huey UH-1H bird but i can not remember if they had filters on the air induction system.

Perhaps any service guys can answer the Apache K&N question.

It's not that secret. Very common system on industrial dust collection systems. I think someone explained in the other thread "sand in iraq"
