i would think 5w 30 would be fine. My 93 3.3 is spec'd for 10w 30 and i run the m1 0w30 afe. Works great.

M1 5-30HM. My sons Ranger, which calls for 5-30, is performing very well with it even after 352K.

changed twice second time updated material so cross fingers is suppose to prevent the issue from returning

All those GM 31's,34's 3500 v6's love 0w30/5w30, thats all that's needed nothing thicker.

mine live on AFE all year around.

Ran M1 5w30 hm 4500 in our 2001 Impala with 3.4 since we got it with 32K miles on it about 5 years ago. Always went with 3K OCI. Before the last run of M1 it never used any oil. But on the last run it was a quart low at 2K check. I put a quart in it, changed it at 3K and now am using GC with P1 PL24011 extra long filter on it. 1600 miles on this oil to date, and it still show full on the dip stick. Planing on 8K OCI now. May do oil analysis at 5K.

If you do go with M1 be sure to check the level every 1K.

BTW, our 3.4 had the intake gasket change twice also. First time was with first revision, and second time with a more recent second revision of the gasket. Dont use Dexcool. I went with Prestone LowTox, mixed it 50/50. Napa stores will get it in for you if you ask. It is expensive.

Is that 352K on M1 HM or 5w30 in general , because if its M1 HM you just made me feel very good about switching to M1 HM on my last oci lol

Up until about 350K he used M1 10-30 with 10-14K OCIs. He noticed a small weep of oil around the pan, so he switched to M1 5-30HM. It has performed equally well for him and the weep seems to be less now as well.

do high mileage synthetic oils have more cleaning abilities than regular synthetics

I'm not sure about all brands, but mobil advertises their hm oil as a cleaning oil.
