Hi,

I have historically used M1 diff oil, and have had good success with it. The one store where I have been able to find it reasonably priced $5.99/qt. Has gone out of business. I can only find it for $6.99-8.99 in stores now.
M1 oil is around $4.50-5 anywhere. Sure, diff oils are generally a bit more expensive, but considering that in reality, M1 engine oil can be had at around $4/gal, the diff oil shouldnt be that much more.

Since I can get redline 75w-90 from the redline sponsor (who Ive had excellent experiences with so far), for $6.30, if I order a bunch, save on tax and average out shiping, its actually better to use redline than M1!

Has anyone been able to find good deals on M1 gear oils, like say $5.99 or less/qt?

Thanks,

JMH

P.S. Anyone care to comment on how schaeffers 75w-90 diff oil stacks up to redline's?

Think volume, many many many more quarts of Mobil 1 motor oil are sold over differential oil.

I saw M1 75W-140 gear oil at Pep Boys for 15.99 for a single bottle.. I do not know if this particular weight it more expensive or what? I saw SuperTech full synthetic 75W-140 gear oil at Wal-Mart for 5.99 a bottle. I was looking because my 02 Explorer uses the full syn 75W-140 in the rear diff... I think the SuperTech could be a bargain!

Where were you getting it for $5.99? I just got some for my front diff at Auto Zone for $6.99. I looked at several other places but couldn't find it anywhere. Think about it this way...Mobile 1 engine oil is about 5x the price of the cheapest motor oil at most places. Mobile 1 gear oil at $6.99/quart is only a little more than double the cheapest dino gear oil.

Schaeffer's #267 is a Blend and a very robust oil. Very good for heavy duty use and summer towing. Loaded with moly.

Their 74X series is a 100% synthetic and maily designed for Eaton axles. No moly.

This is true, but chances are many more qts of M1 diff oil are sold compared to redline, amsoil, etc. yet M1 is actually more expensive now.

I had to get some 75x140 syn for my son's Mountaineer (Ford spec=must be full syn). Advance Auto had NO 75w140 at all. Nor did non-chain auto supply stores. Did not try Walmart (wish I had) because Ford got me for about $18 per qt, x 3 qt capacity. Most expensive rear fluid change of my entire life...

I have the same situation, Ford F250 and the metal tag on the rear diff. states 75W140 Full Synthetic Only. I just bought a case of 12, Royal Purple 75W140 Max Gear. I changed it yesterday in my 01 PSD. It is a Limited Slip diff. and after 2 days, no chattering or problems. I did not add any LS additive because the Royal Purple has it already in it. My cost for a case w/shipping was not much more than what Ford wanted for 4 quarts of the liquid gold with their name on it. So when I get ambitious I will do my 95 PSD.

MolaKule,

Still looking for an alternative to GM's "Grape Juice" for my '03 Duramax. I am currently using M1 75-90. What others would be suitable? and do any meet GM's spec.
