Blackstone had no squawks on this report, everything looked good. Oil was changed because the Oil Life monitor came on.

JohnBrowning was looking for a GM 3.5 DOHC V6 UOA:

here you go.

This kinda squares with my M1 10w30 report on my 3800.

Yours is a superb report. Totally different engine for sure, but the final M1 signature looks similar.

I see no room for improvement here at all. Excellent.

Of course you know that M1 is too thin.

The 0w30 is working superbly for you.

Why did you choose it??? Logic would say it's too thin for your climate.

Excellent report. This is actually a very good oil. Many get scared away from it bc so many people push the A3 rating as representing a "good oil" and it's on the thin side. Well if it's too thin then I guess Mobil 1 0w-20 is too and your wear numbers will be bad...not.

Thanks for the comments!

Although I would consider myself a novice when it comes to motor oils, I also thought that a 0w30 oil might be pushing it for the climate I'm in. I've run M1 for years and never had a problem (although only since I joined this board have I started to actually analyze my oil!) and I figured with the newer formulations (SuperSyn) it should be quite robust.

The light oil was chosen because it was going to be used over the winter. Having said that, when I did the oil change to get this sample, I put M1 0w30 in again, fortified with 1 qt of M1R 0W-30, with the intention of keeping the oil in the car for the summer. I should mention that the car is my wife's so it is driven quite sedately, maybe 75/25 highway/city. My big concern has been cold start up oil flow so that's why I went with the light oil.

Thanks again for your input.

In Ga., I don't think cold is a concern, so the superb results must be something else.

Let us know how this holds up in the heat, especially if you get stuck in some of those Atlanta traffic jams.

Keep doing what you're doing. It's working!

Yep, true. We can't ignore the oua, though. Is our logic flawed??

Why do we believe this??

Well, since this is the first UOA we have seen on this engine......I don't think that we have enough info to form a half way decent theory. This could be like those subaru engines, where any oil looks like a champ.

Or maybe mobil 1 0w30 is better than we think.

I'm no expert but from the general consensus and UOAs on other light oils like 5W-20, I didn't think a highly regarded 0w30 like M1 would be too much of a risk; I'm still not ready to go 5W-20 or 0W-20 though.

Luckily my wife's commute is opposite traffic so she seldom sees bumper-to-bumper traffic that would really stress an oil.

I'll be sure to post the UOA at the next oil change.

THe reason I wanted to see a 3.5 report was for copper. This engine uses an oil pump like the LS1, piston design simalar to the 3.8 and a block design simalr to the North Star.

It is interseting to see that in this vechile their is no excessive copper, lead or iron. Looks like this engine is not plagued with the insane iron or copper levels some of the other powertrains are plagued with.
