i am heading to Vegas in a couple of weeks. car rentals are nuts so decided to try ride share to get around . i have never done a ride share before. i know the 2 big dogs are lyft and uber . So which one is better ? any advantage to take one over another ? Thanks

They are basically like Visa and MasterCard, about the same. In theory Lyft treats their drivers better but in some places Ubers have more cars. Install both apps and check which one works better at the time to see, sometimes they can be almost identically priced but others they can be hugely different.

They're usually about the same, check both sometimes one will be significantly less than the other. Needed to get to the airport a few days ago, Uber was quoting $43 Lyft was $18. It's rare you see that much of a difference but it does happen...in the past the ride would typically be $12. Word is a lot of drivers have shifted to doordash, instacart and ubereats.

Lyft used to offer Lyft-Line in larger markets. Its a shared car service. You sit in a SUV with another party and they go to their destination first, and drop them off before they take you.

If you aren't in a hurry its a good way to save some bucks sometimes 30 percent. I did this in Vegas. This may have gone away with Covid, but it was active in 2019.

I will say that Uber has better quality control, you usually get a nicer car. I have sat in Dog hair junky cars with Lyft several times before.

Use both and compare rates if you're trying to save money. There can be a significant difference. If you're wanting a consistently better experience, use Uber.

Vegas sucks for Uber/Lyft because of the stupid restrictions the taxi companies impose. There are specific pickup and dropoff points at a lot of the major hotels/casinos. A few allow pick/drop at the main entrance just like the taxis, but for most the pickup point is in some obscure parking garage location. It's still better than driving around Vegas IMO.

I just got back from Vegas a couple days ago, had no trouble at all picking up our rental car at McCarran. There were two groups ahead of us in the (short) line that didn't even have reservations and they had no trouble getting cars either.

The drop-off points at the various hotels/casinos made me even happier that we had a rental because the lines to get through for rideshares would have taken forever.

As far as Uber vs Lyft, pretty consistently we pay less with Lyft.
