All Tesla and most newer cars have GPS, if it shows the car is on a track of some sort then it is no big deal to unlock the power otherwise I can see limiting top speed and 0-60 time. Are you saying you want unlimited power and speed for public roads? That is irresponsible.

I'm saying the average consumer should be responsible to make that decision, but we'll coddle them and take away the decision because we're all a bunch of children. I know I don't drive like a fool on populated public roads, but it's pretty obvious many can't handle that responsibility.

I suspect distracted and intoxicated driving are bigger issues than an excess of power. These days, nearly every vehicle has the power to go far above the speed limit. The question is when and how the ability is used.

Actually the bad part is not even public roads driving. Straight line acceleration on a good road is fine.

To me the real danger is on parking lots and in slow maneuvers.

Where even a powerful V8 will need a few fractions of a second to wake up, pull up and pick up if you smash the accelerator by mistake, most EVs will be able to get you to stratospheric speeds without warning within a few car lengths.

A teen or an elderly person smashing the accelerator by mistake on an EV can do a number real quick.

Also, we're getting at levels which are beyond fun. I've been in an S Plaid doing pulls on the road, and I am absolutely convinced that we are reaching levels there which can be harmful to people with health problems. The acceleration is painful. I never though I'd say it with a straight face, but - by moments it's too much.

So maybe it could be a decent idea not to prohibit this, but maybe to regulate it so you can't get in rocket mode without going through a menu or a button or something.

Our M3P has 3 power settings. Even standard is pretty fast.

The cars warns you to dangerous situations; it yells at you. Lotta accident avoidance software. Not sure if it auto-brakes; I think it does.

Teslas have surroundings based acceleration control. I've shut it off, but I want it to accelerate when I push the pedal.
