LUCAS upper cyl lube in a cummins?

Hello
New guy here with a question about using LUCAS upper cyl lube in my cummins diesel. I have a 04.5 dodge 600 cummins and at 7000 miles has a slight knocking at idle and read that it could be a injector. Is this stuff as good as it says and could there be any ill efects on my almost new engine? I have never used a additive in anything I've owned before, so I am a little worried about the outcome. Anybody got the straight scoop on this product? I also bought a new fuel filter and will change that too. Thanks

Take your truck in for a warranty repair. If you really have a problem, don't try some home-brew.

There are very good diesel fuel additives that clean the fuel system, add lubricity to the fuel for the benefit of the injection system, increase the cetane rating of the fuel, disperse water, and kill bugs. Schaeffer Diesel Treat or Soy Shield, Stanadyne, Power Service, and others. If you wish to try these, take careful notes of repeatable trips and see if any more than pay for themselves.

Lucas is weak and no comparison to the 2000 it comes in a tank shot and has great lubricity and cetane boost if it is a dirty injector this will clean it out if its a ping due to lack of cetane this will also help out. I would do this before claiming warranty if its bad fuel i wouldn't waste my time with the dealer. If after the treatment and still have problems then i would consider consulting the dealer.

I don't consider any additive to be a "home brew" but i do know some water them down to cut costs and lucas is no exception.

fact of the matter is that most don't realize is additives are costly and the fuel companies are cutting them down as much as possible and additives are becoming more and more a necessity especially when it comes to fuel.

I've been using UCL in my vw tdi for a while now with good results. My Injection Pump is noticibly quieter with this stuff. It doesn't seem to make any impact on the amount of sound coming from my noisy injectors tho. I buy it from the truck stop in a much larger bottle for just slightly more than a couple small bottles.

thanks for the info. I dont mind trying the Lucas as long as it can't do any harm to my eng. It was cheap enough to buy and the counter guy at the truck repair shop said he sells alot of it.
