There have been numerous question on the cleaning of these light/medium duty diesel engines. I receive about 1 or 2 a day on PM or email, so I am copying the instructions here for all to see. These are also on the www.auto-rx.com web site.

Application Instructions For
Light-Duty Diesel Engines under 100,000 miles

1. NOTE: This Application applies only to the Ford PSD (Power Stroke), Chevrolet/GM Duramax and Dodge w/Cummins engines. Auto-Rx® can be added to your existing oil if you have 2000 miles service life remaining on your oil. If you do not, change oil and filter and continue to STEP 2.

2, NOTE: Auto-Rx® has been tested extensively in the Ford Power Stroke engines and does not affect the HEUI injectors and has not caused any oil foaming or viscosity issues.

Please print out these instructions.

STEP 1
Change the oil filter*
Install a new filter to give Auto-Rx® a place to deposit the sludge, dirt contaminants, soot and other third party abrasives cleaned from the engine.

STEP 2
Add Auto-Rx® to the oil
Pour 2 bottles of Auto-Rx® (24 ounces) into your existing oil. (The Ford PSD has a 15 Quart Capacity and the instructions are the same. This has been tested and verified using oil analysis.)

STEP 3
Cleaning Phase
Drive for 2000 miles

STEP 4
Rinsing Phase
Change the oil and filter.
Use non-synthetic oil for this step. Recommended examples, but not all inclusive: Delvac 1300S, Delo 400, Shell Rotella T, Pennzoil Long Life, Super Tech, Mystic, ALL in the 15W40 grades. DO NOT use Amsoil, Rotella , Delvac I or any other Synthetic for this step.

STEP 5
Completion Phase
Change oil and filter between 2000 and 3000 miles.

Application is complete. You may change to any oil type you normally use, either synthetic or non-synthetic.

Warning: These instructions are only for the listed engines UNDER 100,000 miles. For engines over 100,000 or with seal leaks, use the application instruction listed for Automotive engines with seal leaks or high mileage.

NOTE: Auto-Rx® will not stop an oil pan seal leak in the Ford PSD oil pan gasket, it is RTV, and only a pan removal and resealing will fix that problem. (Engine removal required to remove the oil pan.) Also, Auto-Rx® will not stop a leak in any other RTV type gasket or seal.

* IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO NOTE: If you do not install a new oil filter when applying Auto-Rx® for the first time, you could have a problem because there is no completely empty waste basket to catch all the debris that Auto-Rx® will clean out of your engine. Your current oil filter is probably already dirty and the amount of oil debris removed with Auto-Rx® will cause the filter to overflow. This problem can easily be avoided by installing a clean filter before you add Auto-Rx®.

Thanks for the info Vetteman. Is the reason for the low dose rate in these younger diesels due to the fact that soot cleaning is much easier cleansed with ARX than the type of contaminant formations found in gasoline burners? This would seem logical. Also you are absolutely correct on the pan gasket seals. ARX will only aid in leak stoppage concerning rotational seals. Flat gaskets such as oil pan and valve covers can only be fixed with replacement.

Rick20,

You are correct. The soot is much easier to clean in a diesel engine than the contaminants in a gasoline engine. The new CI oils keep it in suspension better, but short trips tend to let it fall out and build up. The Auto-Rx clean will carry this debris to the Filter and the engine can operate as designed.
