Chevron's "Techron" VS Lucas "Upper Cylinder Lube"

I have good results with the Lucas Fuel UCL and use use it every time I fill the tank at the rate of 2 to 2.5 oz per 10 gallons of regular unleaded. I have some Techron that I bought buy one get one free and will use it sometime this year. I do know that people I have talked with have found that their vehicles run better after using the Lucas Fuel Treatment.

I started out using it when I picked up the new vehicles from the dealer.

Good to know about to use the Techron only once a year. I've gone through about 3 bottles of it in my winter beater (ranger) because of how poorly maintained it was before I bought it. Won't be putting anymore in it now.

SrDriver,

Thank you for your reply. Yes I tried another bottle for my Camry and too have noticed a small change/improvement in the way my engine runs. Since I've added two bottles in a two week period I now have more UCL in the tank than needed. I'm gonna back off for a while and see what the effects are in reverse since I only average 1/4 of gas spent per week. I also noticed no markings on the large bottle so if I decide to go BIG then I guess I'll add markings myself using a small marker. The only issue I've noticed is although my engine runs better/seems I've noticed NO improvement is MPG. At least none that I can tell.

Buffman,

You should read the instructions first. It indicates to use every 3K. I use it for sure every oil change and sometimes will add additional as a supplement. So far no ill effects have surfaced yet. It's like using Chevron's gas.

Really the only reason I'd used it so much was because the truck sat out side nonrunning for 6 months before i bought it, and previous owners never took care of it. The 3.0L vulcan I guess is known for carbon build up. I used to have rough starts when I first got it. Runs like a champ now. (yes fuel filter has been changed after 1st bottle)

Buffman,

I'm glad things worked out for you and the truck you bought. The previous owner really let it go to pot cuz no matter what brand of gas one uses it will go bad after perhaps a couple months without usage.

Using Techron every couple months or so won't hurt it because I think Techron is detergent additive like Lucas UCL. These two supplements will only enhance the brand of gas you bought such as myself. I currently use Arco (BP),Costco and Exxon as my primary gasolines. Why? Because it's one of the cheaper gasolines out here in California. Remember WE here in California PAY dearly for our gas just to go to work. Some say Arco is lousey gas but my opinion is that I've had no problem at all using this gasoline since BP took Arco over. Costco gasoline I can't say either cuz it's a no name brand and I too have had good results using this gas. The current scoop in the hood is that it's left-over gas from Unocal. Exxon brand is an old time brand/grade and this gas works great. In fact all three brands haven't give even a hint of trouble. I do admit I add every couple months a large bottle of Techron and have been trying Lucas UCL every month. These two I believe are detergencies that should be an added plus in anyone tank of gas to safe guard the motors. If I'm wrong then please let me know.

Forgive me for being so political BUT we have a sorry government that does nothing for the people!!!!!

Well that government is fighting a war for "the people" to try and protect our oil interests essentially so you can have cheap gas and still "put food in your mouth." Our gas is still cheap compared to most of the world. We have been so spoiled so long, now everyone is financed to the hilt on everything and no one has any spare money for when a consumed product has a price spike.

And, since we're being political, it isn't the government's job to do everything for us. That's called Socialism. What we have here in America is Capitalism and Democracy. And the problem we have here is not that the government doesn't do enough to help the people, but that way too many people don't do enough to help themselves!

At least in America if you don't like the amount of money you make or your lifestyle, you have the opportunity to do something to improve yourself.

I use techron about once every 15-20000 miles to clean the fuel injectors. It is a strong cleaner and should not be used on a continual maintenence basis like every tank or other tank of gas. Vortec engines are notorious for sticky fuel injectors and will go 2-300k if treated with techron every 20k. But you have to follow the dosage formula closely because not enough does nothing and overdosing can cause issues with the rest of the fuel system. Once a year will keep most vehicles out of trouble a very long time. If you ever get bad gas...techron will clean out any garbage in the system and return your system to normal.I swear by the stuff.

I don't think WE are the spoiled ones. I think the owners of major oil companies (MOBIL for starters) are spoiled. They are profitting billions of dollars. Remember when the vice-president gave himself a $400,000,000 bonus check? Believe me, this is not for our benefit.

And this war wasn't ever for us to have oil, it was, and still is, for an unknown reason. First it was a war on terrorism, and now it still kind of is, but there have been many lies. Weapons of Mass Destruction for starters (The biggest lie to be covered up period). I'm not a believer of the Bible, but all this #@$%! is starting to make me believe.

America can't win a war against such a small, poor country... sounds like Bible talk.

"I'm not a believer of the Bible, but all this #@$%! is starting to make me believe."

LOL! We'll win you over when Damascus gets leveled. (That's in the Bible, too!).

Anyway, anyone know what national chain sells the Lucas UCL in gallon size? My Pep Boys only sells the quarts.

I use UCL, MMO and 2-Cycle in whatever ratio I have going. It smooths things out. I figure a few cents a gallon beats buying premuim or top-tier at 20-30 cents more.

Truckstops, Pilot, Flying-J, maybe Loves, etc. You should have some of those around you.

csavvy: that worked thru Amazon.com! Lucas UCL, gallon, for $19.99. I added a product to meet the threshold of $25.00, at which point Amazon is providing free shipping of this 8 lb. product.

Mucho gracias.

Techron / RedLine S1 you only use once a year because it's harmful to the fuel system for constantly use (note: the once-a-year cleans are okay). They're more expensive, but the benefit is you only need to run it once a year or so. It's method of giving you MPG gains is by cleaning the fuel system and valves.

Redline S1 is perfectly fine for continous use in proper ratio. they even have a smaller S1 fuel cleaner bottle for every fill-up, just like UCL does. Not sure about techron....but I would think that you could easily use it every 2-3K without any issues....prob somewhere around 3-4 times a year.

the redline clearly states on the bottle that it is fine for continious use....I have used it in both Landcruier and 4Runner in continous use and I have over 200K on both of them..... 4Runner pushing 250K now.

Chevron Techron isn't an upper cylinder lube. It is primarily a very good cleaner of deposits in the fuel system, valves, and combustion chamber. It is not to be used in every tank - maybe twice a year.

All Chevron gas has techron in it. So it can be used with every tank. The techron addative is for people who dont always buy chevron gas.

I tried Lucas fuel treatment because other have raved about how great it is. I did not see any improvment over just plain gas when I tried it.
