Lucas synth gear oil- junk?

I bought 5 quarts of Lucas 75W-90 synthetic gear oil for a good price. I read the white paper testing by Amsoil and wonder if I should even use it. It is interesting that nearly all of the low rated lubes in the test were competing boutique brands.

Could this have been a bad batch of Lucas lube? Is the only good thing to use this for is for flushing oil?

Dont believe everything you read. I'm sure it's just fine. I know a couple of local diff shops that fill with lucas and these shops have a VERY good reputation

I thought gear oil had to pass an industry standard before they could sell it ?

My buddy had his diff replaced with a Helical gear limited slip and the guy filled it with Lucas, which ended up being noisy and after a good hot run on the interstate, it would bang around back there on turns like it needed some LS additive. He drained it out and put Royal Purple gear oil and it was silent after that. I know, one bad experience, but it cured him from ever using Lucas again.

JMHO, but I'm not a fan of Lucas motor oils and gear lubes (nothing to do with the Amsoil white paper). It will probably be fine though.

I've never been a fan of Lucas either, and that was before I ever saw the Amsoil white paper.

Interesting, though not surprising. I'm not a Lucas fan but if it has all the proper ratings (i.e. GL-5) it should be fine.

Use it for 30k.

I grabbed a ton of Lucas when Pepboys unloaded their dusty Lucas bottles and, no failures or issues.

What vehicle? is it in a stressful situation?

I avoid Lucas.
Amsoil's tests are a clue.
