04 chevy express 2500 base V8 . Have oil leak at rear of engine. $1000 to fix so thinking of trying Lucas stop leak. Has anyone used it and what were the results. Thank you for any info. jz

I would try any number of high mileage oils before adding Lucas.
How much is it leaking? You can buy a lot of oil for the cost of a rear seal job if that is what it is, have you checked the valve covers?
I am not a fan of seal swellers, they can cause more problems than they fix.
Will a stop leak even work? When did GM start using PTFE rear main seals?
Try running thicker oil first. Or using a high mileage oil.
I am pretty sure the 04 used a rubber seal.
When my 07 F150 had an RMS leak AND an oil pan leak I tried almost EVERY stop leak snake oil made. I had to finally break down and face reality; FIX THE LEAKS!
Valvoline Maxlife has slowed them down for me, but you may have to break down & replace it. At least it’s easier than on a big Transit!

I would definitely try a HM, Mobil 1 or MaxLife I think are the best. As for products, a lot seem to like the rec. below:

Since you're in Florida, try a 20W-50 high mileage oil, Napa occaisionally puts their house brand on sale for a decent price, Castrol GTX High Mileage is the most affordable. Seems most brands have discontinued 20W-50 high mileage or they only sell it by the quart.
ATP 205 has a very good reputation...
All LSx engines use a PTFE rear main seal, Rarely is it the rear main that leaks.....But the Rear Cover Gasket which is the carrier for the rear main seal.
It requires a special tool to align/center the Rear Cover to the crankshaft.
$1,000 is a little rich for that job....Should include a Oil Pan Gasket & Pick-up Tube O-ring for that.
