Does anyone know to what extent, if any, lubro-moly mos2 oil additive will affect oil viscosity?
I've added a full can each to my Accord and Miata which use 5w-20 and 5w-30, respectively.
Unrelated to my above question, but intriguing to me regarding the the topic of mos2, I recently took the Accord from Boston to NYC for the Easter Holiday, ~215 miles each way. When I departed Boston it was a very windy day, the wind coming from the west at +20mph, so I expected the headwind to adversely affect my mpg. On the trip back Sunday afternoon there was exceptional traffic getting out of NYC, stop and go. It took an hour and a half to be clear of the traffic and running at highway speed, between 70 and 75 mph.
My paper and pencil mpg for the trip was 36.6, which was just shy of my record 37. This Winter, with a good deal of city travel I would get in the low to mid twenties, low thirties on the highway.
I don't know whether to attribute this bump in mpg to the mos2 or to to the possibility that the wind at highway level was not a direct headwind but swirling and helping me along. At any rate, when I got to NYC with 215 miles on the ODO and looked at the gas gauge I did a double take. It was a little below 3/4, which, relative to the miles traveled, I had never seen before. The gas tank holds 17 gallons, but the reserve light will come on when a little more than 12 have been used.
