Just out of curiosity, I used some while doing the final drain and fill, with pan drop / filter change. The 01 Grand Caravan seems to be much better at shifting as the shifts are smoother. I used the whole 10 ounce bottle since the total capacity seems about 10 quarts.

I've used it in every car I've owned for the past 20 years and never had a transmission issue.
I believe it was one of the main reasons my 2001 Accord (with the trouble prone BAXA A/T) made it to 109K (when I sold it) without any issues.

I've used the Red in the past, but now I use the LubeGuard Black Bottle for my 1997 Toyota 4 Runner.

The Red worked fine, however, according to the LubeGuard application chart, on their website, the Black was better suited for my application.

If I'm not mistaken, the LubeGuard Red, is designed for use by AT re-builders.

Had good results with treating torque converter shudder in AODE trans. Put it in my F150 with the 6R80 to help with a sticky solenoid- it did nothing. Of course, I don't know if its truly a mechanical stick or a control issue.

Lubegard makes a different product specifically for torque converter shudder that gets great reviews(260 of them):

Good products that do what they claim. I know a transmission rebuilder that is family owned and been in business since 1957 and they use it in every rebuild.
I did some scan tool testing with the red and got a consistent reduction in temp, it does clean valve bodies and prevents/stops shudder as advertised.

I have also used their PS additive with good results on racks with morning sickness and whining pumps. Nothing but good things to say about this company and their products.

BTW, I did a search using "LubeGard" (literal entry) and 72 results were returned.

LubeGard Red has the potential to reduce or remove varnish deposits from AT internals in a neglected transmission.

Don't expect LubeGard Red to cure shudder problems.

I have used the little red tube for torque converter shudder and it worked for a while then came back. Tried it again and it came back several months later. Then I called Lubegard and they said the red bottle contains more of the same and would work better. I lasted much longer until I had the fluid changed and then the shudder returned. Another bottle of Red and 500 miles it went away and extended my Montero transmission replacement for about 3 years. Very good product.

I feel it smoothed out the 2-3 shifting in my AW 55-50S transmission. These are good units but Volvo (Ford at the time) decided to mess with a good thing. They meddled with the valve bodies in some way and LubeGuard red smoothed it out.

Also Volvo(again, Ford at the time) decided to try a stupid thing called "Stop Neutral Function" which disengaged the tranie when at red lights only to have them slam into gear when you took off. Lube Guard and fluid had nothing to do with that. I just threw that in. Kira

LG Red is good stuff. Has almost eliminated a troublesome 1-2 hot shift in my Infiniti. Will be adding a bottle to my Accord during the next splash and fill. Whatever I can do to make sure it's rebuilt transmission lasts.

My GM turbo-hydramtic shifts are very smooth with a fresh fill of Dexron III, new filter, and seven ounces of Lubegard Red. If it keeps the transmission temperatures down like it claims, and I have no reason to believe it does not, then the $10.00 it cost me is money well spent toward preventative maintenance.

Thanks for the response guys, it seemed like a good product after only driving the van for 12 miles / 20km. I'll be making a trip tomorrow that's about 60 miles / 100 km. Hopefully the fluid will break in and make the smooth shifting to buttery smooth.

Good for preventive measures. I have tried it, fluid changes and Lucas for an ongoing cold shifting issues and they did nothing. I recently tried Sea foam and my four year old problem disapeared and has not ocurred since. So it depends if you have issues or not.

More of the same of what???

I seriously doubt that. I think someone misunderstood someone else.

Shudder Fix is a tube of concentrated friction modifier in a thick oil base.

LubeGard Red is predominately a cleaner with esters, anti- oxidants, a little bit of VII, and a little friction modifier in a thin base oil.

Just curious why you don't recommend expecting Lubegard Red to cure shudder problems?

Lubegard's marketing specifically pitches Lubegard Red as "Eliminates clutch chatter and torque converter shudder" and promotes this as being superior to their Dr. Transmission Instant Shudder Fix product.
