whats a good type of lube to use on door hinges? without leaving a gunky mess overtime. also what lube to use for door locks? TIA

The best for both is Corrosion X Aviation in the spray can. Ester fortified with a GrpII base oil, great stuff. For hinges only, I have been using MPC SL-10 which is an oil/grease combination with an EP additive. Also great for screw drive garage door drives and around the house.

I like Tempest's style and have used both of the products mentioned as well as others from each company's line. Favored are MPC's Moist-Out (MO-10) or even PG2000 from ProGold for the locks.

I prefer using ATF on door hinges. Lasts longer than most any other things you can spray in. (I've done the gamut of suggestions over the years until someone suggested ATF to me).

Door lock mechanisms I usually hose down with motorcycle chain lube (its sticky).

The lock where you insert the key, graphite.

Alex.

I use BEL-Ray chain lube on all my hinges and latches. It is very waxy and lasts a long time. it is made for dirt bike chains. Best product I have found for this purpose

My general purpose household oil is 75W90-in-One. I use M1 left over from changing my axles and add a bit of graphite. Works well on bathroom fan motors, house and vehicle hinges, Dremel tool, scissor jacks, etc., places where I can't M1 grease into or where grease would be too thick. Wipe it down after application and a exercising the part/tool. For more delicate mechanisms I'll use Eezox, BreakFree, etc.

For rust protection and some cleaning in the garage I use WD40.
