Ok, in reading on the Lube Control website, I came across this snippet written by Molakule.

At room temperature (20 0C), the component x in LC20 will evaporate in three
weeks.

Now as much as I love the LC/FP combo this has me concerned. I added some LC to my fathers car which he has parked and Im somewhat worried that the LC will evaporate in a car that isnt being frequently used and also in the bottle which is just sitting around with a plastic cap on it.

The question is what exactly evaporates and how does this affect the performance of LC? Honestly, by buying LC in gallons we have quite a large supply that lasts weeks, months, and possibly years and if evaporation is an issued then Im concerned.

Im guessing that LC keeps well and for years but what happens when you open the bottle?

What happens to this component in oil, transmission fluid and power steering fluid when a car is lifeless for a few days or weeks?

Would I be correct in thinking the evaporation rate of component X would be substantially higher at typical operating temperatures of the host oils?
Is there any evidence or reason to believe that while this component evaporates at that rate, it does so while on it's own? I mean, if the evaporation rate becomes lower in the presence of the other components of LC, or when in the company of the host oil, then this would be a bit of a moot point, know what I mean?

Rob has it nailed.

That question was answered in another post on this same thread.

But here it is again. First, just about anything liquid will eventually evaporate.

THAT component (in question) and BY ITSELF will evaporate in approx. three weeks if left open to the atmosphere.

IF you left the bottle of LC open, uncapped that is, it would take THAT component approx. 4 months to evaporate from the LC mixture.

In an engine, it takes about 800 to 1000 miles for THAT component to evaporate.

That's the way this cleaner/lubricant was designed.

Cleaners go in and clean the oil and soften carbon, they cook-off into the PCV system over about 900 miles, then they leave a mixture that lubricates and resists oxidation.

Testing indicated that NONE of the components diffuse through the HDPE plastic containers.
