I saw on the LC site that using LC you could go 10,000 miles instead of 3,000, but doesn't the oil get dirty? Aren't there other factors limiting the OCI besides what LC addresses?

The oil will oxidize and create varnish and carbon buildup, but using LC prevents this from happening.

When oil gets 'dirty' it is the oxidation occuring.

We've had many customers run well past 10,000 miles with great UOA's. If you can keep oxidation under control you can run oil for much longer.

lcd,(Jeff) I just got my Lube Control and Fuel Power

I was just wondering what brand of engine oil you use. I am running Redline 10w30 and I know it is over kill for my application. mikeyoilnutt

I've been wondering the same thing. I been using LC and FP for a couple of months, but I can't bring myself to run my OCI out to 10,000 miles of stop and go driving on dino oil. I emailed LCD about this and they said that the 10,000 mile OCI is a conservative recommendation. I have been unable to find any UOA's from anyone to support the claim. I also didn't find any UOA's on the LC website. I can tell it is doing something good because my oil has not darkened as quickly using LC and FP as it usually does, but I'm still afraid of going 10,000 miles.

As good as LC is, it's not jesus in a bottle.

It still won't have any effect on contaminants in the oil, as well as the oil thinning out.

Hi, Jeff

Other than 10000 mile OCI, is there any OCI recommendation for LC in term of time interval, like other oil company said, "6 months or 1 year...".

Thanks

Hey,

The other day I got both LC and FP in. I like to see threads on a product that really can make an oil go a long time without draining and keep the engine clean,,,,AR

lcd,

Thanks for digging up those UOA's for me. They were helpful, but I was hoping to see some UOA's of common dino ran for 10,000 miles with LC. I'm sure some are coming, so I will have to just be patient.

Partly yes, partly no. Viscosity changes (thinning or thickening) related to oxidation should be reduced by the LC, while those from other sources (fuel dilution, for example) would not. Same deal for contamination. Oxidation crud should be reduced, while things like silicon from dusty roads would not. My feeling is that each individual user needs to identify and analyze his own risks and adjust accordingly.

This is a secret so please don't tell my wife but I'm using her 2002 Explorer as a "guinea pig"

. I ran Schaeffer's 5w30 blend for 8,200 miles and the UOA was real good. Now I'm going to run the Schaeffer's blend again along with LC and FP this time for 10,000 miles and see how it holds up. My biggest "problem" is slightly elevated silicon levels and some Aluminum wear from it. The airbox is a crappy design and I don't think it holds the lid on very tightly. And I was using Motorcraft filters. I'm now using a Purolator for this OCI.

So I'm not the only one.

Last Sunday evening I surreptitiously changed my wife's oil--more so I would not have to hear her complain about my always changing oil, than to try a test. However, it is a test. First time I put "full synthetic" (the free Synpower) in any vehicle. Now to see what happens.

I have a question. being new here and doing some intensive reading in the past few weeks I decided to start running the Motor Craft 5w30 in my 2002 Toyota 3.4.
This was a big change for me until I saw the results others were getting with the oil that I thought was good enough (valvoline all climate

It is mainly a recreational vehicle and see's a combination of 20-60 mile highway trips along with an equal amount of offroading in a mostly sandy environment(the beach).
Two weeks out of four it is parked and occassionally used by my wife on short trips. I am only getting 2-3k miles every 6 months. Would lube control be beneficial for this type of severe use even though my intervals are short?
I am trying to stick to a 3500mile or 6 month max OCI until the warranty is out and this may give me the security to feel confident going 6 months on dino oil.

Bryan, Welcome to the board!

I can tell you first hand using LC is the the cheapest way of keeping things in order in the crankcase. You just can't go wrong with solid chemistry that keeps things clean. Use in tandem with FP, will keep it in tip-top condition. I've been using them since summer in both my cars and I swear by them now!

Thanks for the warm reception. Seeing how many here are believers in this mix I will be ordering some LC and FP. I already have 300 or so miles on the current crankcase full of oil but I will try to squeeze a few ounce of LC in without overfilling. No oil use and no detectable performance issues from this motor but I am a already a junky for this place.
