Just got a 96 Buick Roadmaster with 47K on her. Went to walmart and got confused. Walmart syn-tech 5w30 or 10w30, castro gtx 5w30 or 10w30, or maxlife 5w30 or 10w30? They are all about $12- $13 per 5 quart jug.

Mobil 1 is what you want for your LT-1...mine has 91000 miles on it and it purrs like a kitten still! I'm on the amsoil program for my motor now. Avoid that castrol...motorcraft or maxlife are a much better bargain for the dollar.

i used mobile 1 10w30 for most of my lt1's life, then switched 40w and it's still running great 130k on the clock. I can also assure you i put my lt1 through alot more abuse then you will ever see in that roadmaster.

I am only choosing among the ones I listed. It is a cheap $5k car, no expensive oils. $12-15 per 5 quart jug is the limit. Thanks !!

Castrol GTX is $12 at Wal-Mart in the 5 quart jugs. I just know because it's what I use. I use Castrol GTX 10w30 in my 302 EFI V8 in my old Ford F-150 4x4 and it always keeps good oil pressure. But, I'm biased towards Castrol GTX 10w30 because it's held every engine I've had together and they never lost oil pressure or ticked or anything, and I ran the [censored] out of them. I think it's a good cleaning oil from seeing how fast it used to turn black in my 302, and now it takes longer to get black. I think it cleaned up what the previous owner left behind with their Kendall motor oil.

an LT1 pushing a 4000lb car is a lot of abuse. Especially if you drive one like I do to mine :) He might even have a wagon- 4500lbs :)

My opinion would be to run whatever oil that's on sale. OP will probably change oil every 3,000 miles (since when was $5K considered a "Cheap" car- Cheap is $400

) and oils he listed are all fine for that kind of work.

10w30 or 5w30 both will be fine in your Florida car.

The only reason I might recommend wal-marts synthetic SuperTech would be if the RMS is without the optional oil cooler. Then again it will only come with 2.56s or 2.93s for rear gears, so at 70mph you're not seeing the same rpms as I am with 3.73s.

You want Rotella-T Synthetic. It comes in a Big Blue 1 gallon jug. It is $16 a gallon at Walmart! Your LT1 will love it I promise! It is a match made in heaven for that engine and your climate!

GM's modern V8's like an oil that is thicker then OTC 3W30's and 10W30's. THis is why so many GM engines like Castrols German 0W30 the old green stuff not the new now made in the USA Castrol 0W30. Rotella-T Synthetic is a 5W40 so it is thicker then your run of the mill 5W30 and 10W30's but is not Super Thick! It has a simple but beefy additive package with plenty of ZDDP wich is so old school approved to reduce wear! It is easily able to go 10,000-18,000 miles in most modern V6 and V8 engines so it will easily work for the entire duiration of the GM Enginge Oil LIfe Monitor system. It is just a good oil all the way around. My wifes 1997 Buick LeSaber with the old school Buick 3800 3.8L V6 loves this stuff! I am not guessing what I think you car will like I already know it will like this oil!

His 96 Buick Roadmaster will have a roller cam/lifters stock
from the factory, so high a high ZDDP level is not needed..
