LSJR on oil consumption

Can you please post the link?

The way my MK7 VW ea888.3 pcv works is like he described. On idle/throttle closed the pcv gets vacuum via a port in the block to the intake valves. In that situation if oil has been "misplaced" in the pcv from a heavy brake followed by a right turn...when that path opens it sucks the oil in and you get a plume of white smoke. On throttle that port closes and vacuum is generated by the intake.

Timely video. My dad just came over for an oil change last night after he's had a low oil light 2x in 6k oci, 2014 Silverado w 122k

We installed Valvoline Restore and protect up a grade in 5W-30 and I ordered him a new PCV valve, so we'll see how it goes. We've consistently used Dexos1 rated synthetics in his truck since new, but it does see severe service.

Maybe I missed it but why would higher grade oil may not be the best viscosity for low tension piston ring applications?
Good question. Something about putting stress on the control rings and the spring in between. Not sure as many euro engines call for 40 grade and also have low tension rings. My personal experience has been going up in grade helps oil consumption.

Quite a few European vehicles where 40 was once recommended, now call for a lower viscosity. Maybe Co2 isn't the only reason.
