@Foxtrot08 @MolaKule What are your thoughts on filling up at a gas station while it's being resupplied by a tanker? I've always avoided this because I was concerned about contaminants in the trucks mixing into the UGSTs and stirring up any pre-existing debris. However, there's a station near me that operates on high volume and offers exceptionally good prices. It's an average-sized station (18 pumps) but gets refilled at least once daily. Given this information, would you still be worried about contamination when filling up during a resupply?
Also, I typically add a PEA additive to the tank about once a year (BG 44K). Should I be doing this more frequently? I exclusively use Top Tier gas, but I'm restricted to CA blends with SMOG additives. Any thoughts on this?
Let me answer this in a few ways. I have no idea what MolaKule will say, so I will give my own perspective.
The attached image is from an UGST that I, personally own. We have at one location, a fuel island for our trucks and cars. 1x 10,000 UGST, 2x 6,000. We use 1 for gasoline, 2 for diesel. They get yearly inspections and bi yearly cleanings.
This is what came out of it. Even with everything we do and being lower volume - there’s still 2-6 inches of water in the bottom of the tank. Now, we keep 12 micron, Donaldson filters on the pumps, going to 24 micron for diesel in the winter. So I’m not super worried about the fuel being clean. But, still. This is what’s in an UGST.
Do you trust the maintenance program of the station? Do you trust their filters - if they haven’t bypassed them - at the station?
If you trust their filters and maintenance, then fill up wherever. I mean, I would still personally recommend against it. But sometimes you have to.
I, have the very unpopular opinion that “TopTier” gas is a scam, much like Dexos is. To get top tier certified you have to submit your lab results to them and pay an annual fee. If you look from my side, of wholesale, it’s literally not an option. So I won’t say much else on that.
As for using additives - hard to say, do fuel testing. You might need it more, you might need it less. I personally use Redline SL-1 currently, or Techron because they’re free for me. But I only use them occasionally. I think fuel additives should be less, than more. The whole less is more thing.
