LSj video about diesel fuel additives

Watching now...🍿:)

EDIT: I'll stay away from Archoil, XPD, & Hotshot's.
Wow, look at all that Fe in Archoil!

I already use Power Service so I'm good... :D
It's just been very easily available at WalMart for me.

I used that stuff in every tank on my MB v-6 diesel. If I forgot to put it in, the engine became noticeably louder which told me I forgot. Quieting down a diesel can't be a bad thing.

I am sure there was. I am not good at searching for threads......

Power Service has been used in oilfield services forever.....it is because of my experiences there, that I use white bollte in the winter and grey bottle in the summer.

I've used PS in my diesels since my first one in 1986 (Ford Tempo). Never had anything bad to say about their products.

They had, back when I talked to their customer service many years ago, one of the best customer-focused programs at the time. When I had questions about the nuances of their product, they transferred me to one of their engineering guys who talked with me on the phone for a long time. I learned a LOT about diesel fuel additives from him and will be loyal to that brand because of that one interaction.

I sent a message to repair geek about this and he replied, "The iron is supposed to reduce the ignition temperature of the fuel. This should help clean the DPF because the ignition point of the fuel is lower. I have concerns about left over iron in the DPF causing ash build up, but thats why it's in there."

Don't know how much truth there is with his response but that's what he thinks.

Yeah, I just look at it from a monitoring maintenance perspective. I certainly don't want high readings masking my UOA. It seems to do well in testing though & I'm sure it supposed to serve a purpose like you mentioned.

I ran PS when I had my 05 Duramax, unfortunately not enough to overcome all the water I got in a tank of fuel North of Cinci. Some 911 and a tow back to my warm garage to change the fuel filter and it was all better. Of course Speedway denied it was their fuel.

Ferrocene is the compound. There are papers out there regarding it's uses as a fuel additive.

What is wrong with XPD? It has the lowest wear scar of all and increases Cetane. My biggest concern is the lack of lubricity in ULSD because my HPFP is apparently very sensitive to wear (VW Golf TDi). I have been using OptiLube XL which has the highest lubricity. Whether or not it causes a decrease in oil viscosity is to be determined. Some time ago I used to use Stanadyne and experienced a significant drop in viscosity.

Too much K & that can mask coolant contamination in a UOA. That's why I don't like it.

I've read that ULSD is supposed to have some replacement additives for lubricity. I'm sure an additive will give you a lot more though.

You can check if there is a local station that offers this treated diesel fuel as it seems to be a collab with power service and some fuel stations. I have several stations near me that offer this. I’ve been using this lately and it eliminates the need to add anything. I had not previously used any additives, except one treatment of power service white bottle this winter due to temps of -8F. The engine is noticeably quieter when running this as well. I’ve also noticed less soot loading as I monitor with a scangauge 3.
