Got an 05 LS430 in for a radiator leak. Bought a radiator from the dealer and made in China. Original radiator made in Japan. Just thought it was interesting.

What is the part number?

It may be similar to the Toyota MVP radiator (lower cost than OE), but I don’t know if Lexus has the tiered parts level.

Its probably ok and still Denso.

Does the original radiator have 5023 or 5025 printed on the tank?

Both are 5023 (non towing package). I haven’t seen the MVP stuff from Lexus yet nor does the number suggest it -16400-50231. I’m sure it will work well, just surprised. Last 2 Denso’s I bought were made in Taiwan and I believe the last Koyorad made in Indonesia.

We just replaced the radiator on a friend's '05 LS 430 in May. Despite the low mileage (35,000 miles), it had a minor crack on the lower tank.

The part number I ordered from Amayama in Japan was 16400-50241 and it was made in Japan. Cost wise, it was $437 plus $182 shipping, making a grand total of $619.

Interesting that this came from a dealer.

Post COVID I noticed that European parts manufactures began to supply parts-houses with product made in China. This left buyers of say BMW parts with only two choices. Genuine or aftermarket. No more OE*

OE: Defined as a genuine part with the automaker label ground off.

Toyota does have a “value” line to compete against the aftermarket - I don’t think Lexus is part of that tiered line.

I’ve noticed that as well, we are a primarily Euro shop and noticed a huge decline.

Interesting - that said $437 is about MSPR

It is happening with German cars a lot.

The OE part production is discontinued.

Production of the part is then restarted at a lower cost country, and that is offered as an OE replacement. Sadly it is not made to the same specifications.

With Toyota the quality should be better maintained though.

Spectra is all over the map. One might fit well while another application doesn't fit at all

Aftermarket Denso $125 on Rock Auto :sneaky:

OEM radiators for Japanese cars are way overpriced! American and Euro OEM rads are usually priced more fairly.

The aftermarket Denso for your LS430 is probably good quality, though also Chinese.
