This one may be the lowest I have ever seen:

Once you subtract the weight of a driver, you're in the 800-850 range. Has anyone seen lower for a 1/2 ton truck?

It is crazy how low the payload numbers are for lots of pickups. The cabs get bigger, the beds get smaller and so does the payload.

I like that a 3 cyl Mirage has the same cargo load capacity...
My Dad brought home a pallet with 3000+lb of sakrete in his 2018 1500 Ram... Probably riding on the bump stops but it wasn't too far, or fast, and nothing broke, but maybe not the smartest...
I don't think the Mirage would do so well with that load though so I think there's a bit of a fudge factor with these pickup load ratings.

The "not-a-real-truck" 2022 Honda Ridgeline pickup has a payload rating of 1477-1543 lb, depending on the trim package.
Yea-but the short wheelbase will limit towing. It's at 125" for the Ridgeline. The RAM is 144". Then we won't even get in to a true frame truck vs. the Ridgeline and what's best for towing. I would put an ultra light 26 foot trailer behind the RAM-not the Ridgeline. YMMV.

My fully loaded 2018 Silverado Crew Cab w/4WD tows a 4,400 pound DRY (30 foot) travel trailer all over the country without issue. The payload is 1,444 pounds. But yea but for a comfortable tow you should be towing no more than 5,000 pounds-IMHO, but I get a lot of pushback on that figure. But then again, I tow more in one year than some guys do in 5 years-so there is that.

I think the ratings are very understated. I have often hauled a full ton in my 1/2 ton pickups. And I remember the old 1950 1 and 1/2 ton farm trucks, that back then was the standard size on virtually all farms, and we all hauled 4 to 5 tons on them all the time.

My minivan is 1300… why even have a truck at the point.
Our sienna is 1682lbs. Because the tow rating on a minivan is 3500lbs or so. The truck still has a 10k tow rating, but only with a very light tongue weight, which can happen towing a boat.

1521lbs for my 2019 Ram 1500 classic, hemi, 4x4, crew cab, 5'7" bed per the door jamb sticker.

Three 'Muricans and a sack of groceries...

Keep in mind that most 1/2 ton trucks require a WDH if you tow anything over 5,000 lbs.

I've always said that most truck owners who do not haul "dirty items" are better off renting one when they need it, myself included.

Our 1500 has a 1,740lb payload.
Interesting. My Bighorn is far more stripped than yours and my payload is 1,690 lbs.

If someone runs in to me over payload-I'm suing (can get me one of those $80,000 trucks!)-and the owner/his lawyer can explain how he knows more than the engineers who spec'ed the payload figure on the truck. It will be interesting!
