Previously USPS Priority Mail had 3 options: Large, Medium and Small Flat Rate Box

Large 12" x 12" x 5-1/2" for $15.30
Medium 11" x 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" for $11.30
Small 8-5/8" x 5-3/8" x 1-5/8" for $5.15

Now they have another 3 extra options: Regional Rate Box A, Regional Rate Box B and Regional Rate Box C.

Box A 10" x 7" x 4-3/4"
Box B 12" x 10-1/4" x 5"
Box C 14-3/4" x 11-3/4" x 11-1/2"

Box A is much larger than Small Flat Rate Box and almost as big as Medium Flat Rate Box for as little as $5.84.

Box B is 20% larger than Medium Flat Rate Box for as little as $8.47.

The Regional Rate Box price is dependent on the distance, and the other problem is Post Office may not have Regional Rate Box, you need to order it online from USPS and they will ship the box to your address for free.

USPS - Priority Mail Regional Box

An important restriction: you have to use a postage meter or online label, such as Click-n-Ship or PayPal labels, etc.

It does not matter what it costs if the delivery isnt accountable to time. Most stuff Ive tried to send flat rate priority mail or express mail takes many more days than they say it will. It gets to the point where you are just happy it makes it.

Im glad there are more options, but their issue is that there should be price parity to UPS and FEDEX which are MUCH, MUCH more expensive. If I were mailing letters by UPS, Id be paying $5+ each, not 49c. If I were shipping stuff, the pricing structure is the same. Its nice to have more options, but I have to wonder if USPS is just putting themselves more into the hole with this.

I think cost of shipping package(s) is reasonable(yes, they are lower than UPS and Fedex) except cost of media package is so low, also cost of first class mail is so low, especially when you mail a letter from Main to Hawaii the cost is the same as within a city, 46c now and will be up to 48c early next year. I think first class mail should be in the 60-70c.

I just shipped 2 packages with Regional Box, 1 to Iowa and 1 to San Jose, both delivered within 3 days for $8.xx each package. For the same size and weight UPS wants $15.xx.

Flat rate boxes are about the best thing there is right now if you want to ship anything over 13 ounces. Because otherwise you'll be paying for priority mail anyways, but you get free packaging with the flat rate boxes/envelopes.
