What you do with this article now that you have read it... is up to you.
This might be funny if it weren't so true.
Be sure to read all the way to the end:

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table,
At which he's fed.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.

Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for
peanuts anyway!

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.

Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.

Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries
Tax his tears.

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ***.

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.

Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid...

Put these words
Upon his tomb,
'Taxes drove me
to my doom...'

When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, & our nation was the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

Liquor has been taxed since 1791. Really, it was pretty much our government's source of income until Prohibition. Taxes on whiskey and beer paid for the Union Army in the Civil War. They also taxed playing cards, tobacco, etc...

As far as mom staying home: My wife went to college for 4 years and earned her degree while busting her butt at night working at night to pay her rent, car insurance, groceries, etc.... She's intellectually equal to or greater than any of her male peers. Is it fair to her or her company to force a valuable management commodity back into the home?

A male friend of mine is a "house-husband". stays home with his daughters, takes them to school, makes the meals, does the housework....etc... He finds it the most rewarding "career" he's ever had. Is it fair or good to force him back out into a job because he has the Y chromosome?

The money just grew a bunch of fat cats in Washington that make a career out of gridlock. They claim to be working for all of us,but frankly I would rather fire them and let the people decide all these bills. They arent the voice of the people. They havent a clue being so insulated from mainstreet USA.The only time they see common people is when they campaign for election, and thats just drumming up votes to get in.

Think what he is getting at is that we used to be a one income economy. Now, unless you struck big or have a lucrative position, it MIGHT be possible to be an one income family. I know between me and my gf, if one of us looses our job, we are pretty much done for without assistance.

The even tax you for not losing money. Interest on your bank account is taxed even though it is nothing more than making up for inflation, so you break even, but they tax you anyway. But the worst part of taxes is all the record keeping and hassle filling out forms. You are basically a government worker for the 40+ hours you have to fool around with that. Should be able to deduct that many hours of your pay as a tax credit! It is a perverse system, made that way by political deals and favors. Every dollar is likely taxed 10 times over and then some as it circulates through the economy.

While I do think there is a lot of wasteful spending in this country there is a need for some taxes. I for one am glad that we have been able to keep the bulk of terrorists out of North America. We also needed to fight against Germany and Japan in WW II.

And I think we need to provide a basic safety net for those who cannot provide for themselves.

Jesus said "give the king what is due him and give God the rest" when asked if they should pay taxes. I think he got it right.

I'm surprised there isn't a tax for those that are too poor to pay tax.

As a start, Congress has gone from an unpaid volunteer position to serve the country, into a 200K plus per year salaried, self-serving position. Plus the same in retirement after only a 6 year term.

Yep!
But the years following 1929 were not so good
And Average life expectancy in 1910 was around 55
I still think like is better now

With re-election every two years for Congressman, their priority is to seek the donations to run for expensive dirty campaigns. They toe the party line to get party re- election funds. They train exclusively for sound bytes.

Senators re-elected every six years will respond to activities within their state as not their problem because they are elected for national problems. And they fix them so well as you can see, look at the mess we are in.

Love the last day's article about how the average congressional freshman has over $1 million over the average American family. Guess we are sheep and looks like it'll get much worse for our children.

There needs to be fundamental changes in how we elect representatives, their length of service for office, and term limits or every deemed domestic terror event will herd our freedoms closer into no talking while standing in the soup lines.

Best armed force in the world!

Wars are certainly expensive, especially if 2 at the same time and over 10 years each.

How many of us even know that there isn't a law that says you have to pay tax on your income. there is no such law.

Agree. If anyone cared to ask me (they won't), I'd say the two biggest improvements we can make in the interest of our future would be to eliminate money from elections by making them publicly financed. If a candidate gets enough support, they qualify for money. Everyone who qualifies gets same amount. No PACs, Super PACs, donation loopholes, etc.

Second is instant runoff voting to encourage the existence of third parties, although public financing would go a long way towards that as well. If unfamiliar, IRV works by allowing you to "rank" your votes. Lets take the most recent POTUS election. With IRV, if you were a Ron Paul supporter you could have submitted a ballot with "1. Paul, 2. Romney". Votes are tallied based on your "1" pick. If Ron Paul came in third, then he would be eliminated and there would be an "instant runoff" between Romney and Obama. With Paul gone, your vote now goes to Romney for the runoff. It eliminates the idea of "wasting a vote" by voting for the third party, rather than "against" the Democrat or Republican.

Of course, the problem is we are relying on the people who profit off the current system to change it to something better. Maybe back in the old days when you had people who were true "statesmen" and would vote based on the interest of the country and the future. Now they are just looking to be reelected and to please the people who bankroll their million dollar campaigns.

In regard to the cost of two wars over 10 years, lets remember that we engaged in plenty of military activity in the 50's and 60's in southeast Asia. We paid our bills, the economy and middle class grew. Now go back and compare the tax rates. Then ask yourself why we have run deficits for nearly every year since 1980. Yes, other spending is part of the problem, but only part.

and again..

Tax law is originated by the Ways and Means Committee in the house. The entire Revenue code is law passed by Congress. If you think that isn't law, try not paying and see what happens. You'll end up like Peter Schiff's father. I hate taxes as much as the next guy, but to say there is no such law that says you have to pay income taxes is practically delusional.

While I do agree that we need to help those who truly need help, there are far too many people who are abusing the system. When you can make more on welfare(in 9 states) than what the average teacher makes, then there's something wrong. In 47 states welfare pays more than a $8/hr job, 7 of those pay more than a $12/hr job; kills the incentive to work... Why should someone who is not WILLING to work receive anything from those of us who do...

We have become a de facto socialist society (the reason for so many taxes), and it is killing us as a nation. If we are not careful we will end up like so many once great European nations; no offense or disrespect intended to Europeans...
