I had my X8380's idle start to lope 3 mows ago. It seemed like what you get with a lean idle circuit, and I wondered if junk clogged an idle jet.

I only burn non-alky premium, and occasionally run a bit of Techron thru it. I change fuel filters at the start of each season, and clean the air filters as needed.

Being wise... I mean old, I decided to do the easy first, and pulled a plug. I haven't seen so much oil and carbon since my early two-stroke days!

I replaced the plugs, and did my cut-the-side-electrode-with-side-cutters thing (I believe exposing more of the center electrode, and making the side electrode smaller, helps the flame kernel grow).

I was very happy to learn that my lope was gone. I was so excited I cut the lawn several days early!

I really need to get a hobby! :)

I believe your X380 has a similar Kawasaki engine as my X354. I solved a surging idle issue by replacing the two intake gaskets on both sides of the carb spacer. If you spray carb cleaner or brake cleaner with the engine running and the idle smooths out that confirms the intake leak.

That's a great idea. I'll give it a try.
