Looking for Poulan Snowblower Shear Bolt/Pin

I am in need of a Shear bolt/Pin for a Poulan Pro Snowblower:

The bolt has a

1/2" drive head with flange
2.06" Inches total length
1/4" X 20 thread; thread length at bottom of bolt is 1/2"
0.47" Shoulder below head flange
0.2" diameter shear groove below shoulder

I have a 1-3/4" shear bolt in there now from the hardware store.

Poulan Parts does not show any pictures of their shear bolts.

I always use Parts Tree. They list Poulan parts. You will need your model number and maybe your serial number. They are fast, reputable and dependable parts suppliers. I have been able to get hard to find parts for my 28 year old Lawn Boy snowblower from them.

You should be able to order them from Lowe's. Most likely not in the store though, but check. Poulan Pro shear pins are also Husqvarna shear pins according to Lowe's, I work there and just checked their site. It's ~$5.92 for a pack of 6. Check the lowes.com site.

Thanks guys, will check out Lowe's tomorrow and then Partstree.

Theisen's (local Farm and Home store) was the one that sold it but they had no shear bolts.

They gave me a business card for a local OE repair shop and the guy said to use what I am using.

But I am not satisfied because of the shoulder which fits into a larger hole on the Auger.

I want the Auger to fit as designed.

This winter was so brutal I resorted to 1/4-20 bolts out of a cheap nut, bolt, washer assortment kit I had on hand! Bad I know, but they break like cold bubble gum.

FWIW, at the start of winter, my MTD/Yardman snowblower had it's ~14yr/old factory shear bolts in it.

Thanks vssjim, those are the exact bolts that I need.

I have been snowblowing at least every other day since we have been having 3-8" snows. Another is on the way for late Monday and into Tuesday.

I bought this snowblower blower three years ago and maybe used it two times during each previous winter.

Currently I am using the grade 2 "shear" bolts from the hardware store that is used in other types of snowblowers.

I think what sheared the one bolt was a chunk of ice that was dislodged near the ground (we have had ice storms as well).

I didn't know the right Auger wasn't turning until my neighbor spotted it when I was clearing his sidewalk.

I usually clear about 5 houses worth of sidewalks when I clear snow. Clearing is easier when walking in a straight line anyway.

MolaKule, I have an Ariens I bought about 3 years ago.

I lost a shear pin last year. I thought I had seen a packet of 2 in the plastic envelope that holds the manuals for the blower and engine ... but when I double checked I could not find them.

Today, I was wiping the dust off the machine and I saw them zip-tied to the chute brace.

+1 Ariens.

I have gone through 2 so far. I lowered the skids to get the bucket out of the gravel. I had a heck of time getting the last one out. When I did, I made a cotter type pin out of 6" of baling wire. Coat hanger wire would prolly work too. We will see what happens. I'm beginning to think Ariens low balled the snowblowers. The real money is in the shear bolts. ;D

Yea, I think I will open a new business division making Shear bolts/Pins and gun parts.

I've never resorted to a 'real' bolt instead of a shear pin, but I have used a piece of coathanger wire in an emergency.

I have a dirt drive with potholes and rocks. Have yet to go through a shear bolt.
