Before posting I have tried searching around here on my own for info but not much luck.

I have a 97 dodge neon 2.0 sohc I bought it with 86k miles in 06 and have now 234,000 miles. Since I bought it I have been using synthetic oils, Mobil 1, valvoline syn, castrol syn, O'rielly syn (O'rielly auto parts*) and a couple times I used royal purple or Mobil 5-40 diesel syn when I was in Phoenix az in the summer.

I drive city and highway though more city nowadays and I have driven it very hard before and fairly often spirited . My cars engine has a bit of a rattle noise that goes away after 2400 rpms and has been there since I bought it. I think it's the hydraulic lifters but have not given it much though.

So anyways should I change anything or have I been doing fine since I made it over 200k miles on a first gen neon and driven it to Seattle Washington and to Phoenix Arizona more than once from central california? Also I have never done a used oil analysis before .

Welcome.

My opinion is that you should keep doing what you're doing. It doesn't sound like that motor is picky about oil, so just stick with whatever's on sale.

Don't change a thing. Keep on changing oil at intervals you have been. Sounds like you are doing what you need to do to keep it running.

you should have some sort of a prayer meeting over that car,,wow,,maybe chant or something,,,you have done well...

Neons are famous for piston slap on startup and even on warm idle. Not a big deal though, keep doing what you're doing and change the T-belt every now and then.

Mobil 1 0W40 if you shop at Walmart. I've not seen too many of those engines live that long without an overhaul. I don't want to say your on borrowed time but It feels that way. Usually the transmission would go a couple times before the engine.
