Somewhere (maybe not even on this forum?) I once read a thread that described a method of substituting different halogen bulbs to increase the brightness of your headlights. On some models, it required slight trimming of a locating tab or notch.

I'm just making up numbers but I thought it was something like making a 9007 fit where a 9001 was designed to go.

Does anybody remember this thread?

Not really looking for a discussion on HID or Silver Stars, etc.

Thanks.

9005/9006 are commonly swapped for 9011/9012

I did this with my previous '08 Civic. It was a marked improvement, but not enough to blind oncoming traffic. This fact may have been helped by the fact that Civics are very low cars.

Find out what kind of bulb you have and Google "[9005 or whichever you want to swap] to HIR conversion"

I did the 9005-->9011 and 9006-->9012 swaps and have been happy. These are in low beam projector & reflector housings w/glare caps, so blinding traffic isn't an issue.

Perfect! I have an older Saturn that uses 9005/9006.

Now I just need to see if I have any 9011/9012 bulbs in my stash of spares.
