the problem with taking advice like this is nobody has the exact same body as you.
so take it with a grain of salt when someone says a particular mattress works... FOR them.
People's bodies are different, so it's very naive to just take a blind recommendation without correlating what works for YOUR body.

So it;s going to take some research on your part to read up and find what works for you, or you pay someone to help guide you to find it.


Definitely though right now there is a wave right now for the online mattress "disrupters" that are selling directly to consumers.

I would say be cautious that while yes maybe mattress industry is getting a bit disrupted, take it with a grain of salt that if your only "research' is using the internet you will be innundated with for-profit sites and mattress "review experts". But these are really 20something millenials in an apartment who are just halfway good at making a website and writing a blog and spent 5months trying out every "free" mattress with a return policy to try to make a paycheck from referrals and advertisement money.

So when the "internet" seems to think mattress disrupter X is the bees knees, it is a very biased. The way Search Engine Optimization works is by creating an echo chamber that reflects and exaggerates the current trendy result and a lot of money is spent to push fake websites to reinforce that false trend. Know your sources and that the internet is a completely skewed by the network effect and SEO and can be bought.
If a website is ONLY reviewing or only talking these "newage" internet mattresses and has little to say other than to dismiss traditional mattresses, that should say something to you.

It is just the same as how wikipedia's articles on wookies are probably way more in depth as say a random africa. If the internet were to pick the president it would be chewbacca and grumpy cat.

This is not to say that an online mattress won't work for you (I am sleeping on a helix bed), but just don't think that the traditional spring mattress that you buy locally from a mattress store or mattress department is obsolete or outdated and out to rip you off just because the internet says so. You can easily find mattress sales so a very good traditional mattress costs $500 and works great for you and just as competitive as an online mattress.
It does NOT need to cost $3000 like the online mattress try to make it seem.

Does it sit on platform or box spring or either?


Mine is on the S&F foundation I already had. My friend's is on an old box spring base. The box spring base will make the mattress have a little more "give" vs a solid foundation.

A very wise man I look up to once told me, don't be cheap and frivolous when it comes to buying a mattress, or when buying a pair of work boots. The wrong mattress and the wrong pair of shoes can and will have a detrimental impact on your well being.

We drop a couple of thousand dollars about every ten years or so on a mattress, and we sleep like absolute babies on our current mattress. It's almost impossible to get out of on a Saturday or Sunday morning, it's so comfortable.

Don't go cheap. Your wife is right.

When we were in college we used to buy the pillowtop Serta beds from Big Lots. They were terrible and would last two years then sag in the middle.

Got away from the pillow tops and moved back to the standard firm mattress from a local Texas company. Very good for the guest room, but not good to sleep on every day.

Now we are on a Ikea King mattress that is called a foam wrapped coil construction. 3 years in, we are still happy with it.

Did not like 90 percent of the beds at Ikea, but this one has been good. We bought a bedroom set with dresser, mattress, wood bed, and a few other items for $1100 delivered to the door. The only bad part was assembling all the stuff, not my idea of fun.

Add us to this list. My wife and I couldn't agree on a mattress, she wanted a soft and I wanted firmer so this was the only way to go.

The best most supportive mattress combination you can buy is a top quality spring unit with several inches of latex as the comfort layer on top.

I made my own mattress doing this with the Denver Dr.s Choice I've had for several years. The cheapy foam was worn out and saggy so I literally cut the mattress open, replaced the foam with a 2 inch medium all natural dunlop latex topper, and sewed it back together. Best $300 bucks I've ever spent!

The last mattress I bought was in 2003 and was a Simmons, man that was great and built for 25 years.

I bought another Simmons last May and its good for 10 years. Would have gone better with the 25 year mattress but didn't want to spend the money.
