Looking for a netbook

I'm thinking my power supply may be going on my 3 month old ASUS.

Did yours buzz before it died? Mine just started to buzz loudly if plugged in for more than a couple of hours.

Also the speakers in mine stink beyond. Very LOW volume. My wifes netbook (10") is a easy 5 times lounder. I've tried all settings. Now on Egghead a lot of the reviews are stating the low volume problem also so I'm not crazy..

That's unfortunate. I've yet to have an adaptor die on any of the ones I've sold.

If you are unhappy with ASUS, you can always try another brand. As I said, they have been excellent for me. But you are obviously not sharing the same experience.

I don't think mine buzzed. It's wife's computer though, so I'm not sure.

Good thing is, a new power adapter is only $12 on ebay (incl. shipping), although ours is still under warranty. But having to ship the old one back to ASUS and having to wait for a replacement is a PITA. In the meantime, I will have to get her one of these expensive universal adapters from a local store or else I won't hear the end of it...

We had an adaptor on a Mac die and had to do the same thing while I had the original adaptor for repair. They were able return the adaptor from the store after the Mac adaptor was fixed.

Yeah it is a PITA..

Just to make it interesting. I plugged in the power supply/charger and then took the battery out and the charger stopped buzzing. Left it on for another hour or so and it was quiet. Same temp also..(slightly warm to the touch)

Any thoughts? Could it be the battery going or the charger or is everything "normal"? but it did not buzz until late..

Never had this problems with a bunch of Dells or my wifes Acer.

Smack it (the adaptor) and see if it stops buzzing. If it does, it's likely something like the wrap on the transformer is loose. if it doesn't, the transformer may be failing under load and I would attempt to arrange an advance RMA for it if possible.

From our previous discussions, it would appear your RMA process south of the border is no where near as clean and simple as it is up here, which is very unfortunate. I'm 45 minutes from the ASUS depot

UPDATE: Spoke with ASUS tech support. They advised to remove the cable from the power adapter for 20 seconds and then insert it back in. This resets the internal overheat protection circuitry. It works now.
 
I bought oilBabe an Asus (don't recall the model) netbook and upgraded the RAM to 2GB for Valentines Day and it's been flawless.

If we need something from CD/DVD I just put the files on a thumb-drive or put it on another computer and share that folder.

The ASUS models seemed the most solid, so that's what I went with.
 
Asus 1201T here, Neo MV-40, decent graphics, 2GB RAM, 250GB disk, $379 from NewEgg.

$379 didn't buy a 20MB (Megabyte) hard drive back in '86. LOL
