I have owned perhaps 4 or 5 lever action grease guns over the last 4 decades, and they were all disappointing in one way or another. After only a little bit of use, they all seem to lose prime, and no longer pump. And getting them to pump again seems to be nearly impossible.

Is there a trick to repriming a cartridge (14oz) type lever action grease gun?

Anything on the market that is dependable and not a PITA to use? Or are they all junk from China?

The brands I am aware of are Plews, Lincoln, and Alemite

I gave up on lever units long ago.

How much greasing are you doing? Air operated models are inexpensive, require minimal compressor, and make the job that much less of a chore.

Put the coupler up against some rubber to seal it off and stroke the lever a few times.Seems air is drawn in on the upstroke.

Are you bleeding them properly?

Lincoln makes a good grease gun.

Maybe your not refilling the cartridge right. I thought it was self explanatory and was doing it wrong myself until I read the directions .

Here's how it's done>>>

Your right they are no as good, not even close.
USA made Lincoln and Alemite guns are only related to the new ones by name. The McNaught is the same quality as the old USA guns.

I still use the guns I bought in the 60's-70's and all are fine. Maybe they like greasing cars of their same vintage better? My last greasable cars are mid 80's GM and then my wife's '93 Grand Cherokee. The newer stuff is sealed. I've always liked Lisle products-maybe they still make a quality gun? '

Very little. Just the snow blower, hand truck, and wheel barrows.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious. You can pat yourself on the back now.

1. Pull the plunger all the way out to the lock position
2. Loosen bleeder screw (do not take it all the way out!)
3. Unlock plunger and let it push the grease
4. Observe grease squeezing out past the bleeder screw
5. Close bleeder screw

Do not try to pack a grease gun with grease without the cartridge - you'll get all kinds of air pockets if you do.

I prefer Lincoln grease guns.

You guys ever hear of Kamasa tools ? I just now found this:

If I was a pro, I might do that Milwaukee, but not enough need for the #. That's more $ than my Milwaukee 18v 1/2" impact cost me!
