Looking for a 4 foot long power strip.

Looking for a power strip that meets these criteria:

4 foot long strip (metal construction)
12-16 outlets (no fewer than 10) spaced out along entire 4' length
minimum 9 foot cord
minimum 15 amps
surge suppression built in
wall mountable with clips

TrippLite makes a nice one (PS4816), but it doesn't have surge suppression with it. I could plug the strip into a suppressor, but that clutters the installation.

I wonder if at that length you would be better off making your own (!).

Id imagine you could pull the guts from a smaller supressor and put it in there with an inline fuse, etc. Put it all together in some track of some sort.

Just found this... this is as close as I've found to what I'm needing for this customer.

I'm just not sure how well made that this may be.

The layout of the 10x10 office is that one wall is all glass, and of course, that's the wall that half of the desk runs along.

So, there's a computer, a monitor, a cordless phone, an adding machine, a printer, a scanner, and a portable AM/FM/CD radio all sitting in a line down one 6 foot leg of an "L" shaped desk.... and they all need to be plugged into something.

Right now, they have three, very cheap 4 outlet power strips plugged together in a daisy chain, laying along the bottom of the glass wall, with all of these items plugged in. Add in a couple of USB cables, and the end result is a sheer mess.

The glass wall sits a 10" metal base that is skinned with sheet metal on both sides, so that's where I'd like to permanently mount the 4 foot power strip, a couple inches off of the floor.

Since it will be quite inaccessible, and tucked in behind the desk, there's little threat of someone plugging a vacuum or a space heater into it.

I've seen plenty of 6-outlet surge suppressors. Since they need only 10 outlets, 2 of those would do very well, allowing shorter runs for some of the appliances.

I'm trying to get away from daisy chained power strips, and to more of a permanent solution, without getting an electrician involved at $75 an hour.

I know APC makes one, but I don't know a model number. It's a 20A job with probably ten or fifteen receptacles... Tripplite's latest catalog has one that (if I remember) has surge suppression as well as dual input. All in one big stick.

APC has them listed under "PDU's" as they are rack-mountable. I've used them a fair bit in rack-mount enclosures.

And that's the one that I ended up buying, and it was less than $50. It was the closest thing that I found, that met all of my requirements.

4 feet, 12 outlets, 9' cord, 15 amps, surge suppression built in, wall mountable.

Since Fry's ships out of Memphis, I should have it tomorrow.

Starting to regret buying this from Fry's...

Placed the order 36 hours ago, still don't have a tracking number.

That's really sloppy and inexcusable.

I'm really regretting buying this from Fry's...

It showed up a day late, and I never received a tracking number.

To "package" it, they wrapped what appears to be a clear trash bag around it, then wrapped the whole thing with clear packaging tape, and stuck a label to it.

Both ends of the power strip are dented in, and where it is dented, the paint has chipped off.

I'm going to give them a call, but I think I know where this is already going to go.

Fry's still hasn't even responded about the damage claim (I was told that they'd take care of it in 10 working days).

So, I call them. After listening to about 10 minutes of the world's worst hold music, here's their response.

I have to take the time to repackage a damaged item that they can't resell anyway, and then take it somewhere to ship it back to them, and pay for the shipping out of pocket.

Then I have to fax them a copy of the receipt for shipping it back to them, and wait for them to reimburse me for the shipping (if they ever do). I've already experienced how slow they are in taking care of things.

Well, they can simply forget that. I'm not doing business with them again. I'm not going to go through all of that time and effort to deal with their screw-up.

Fry's stinks.

microcenter has some "stanly" brand ones I think they are 4ft but they might only be 3ft.

I don't pay any where near what they have shown for price. You should be able to find that model on-line for much less if you shop around.
