Looking at a 2019 Nissan Frontier

As the title says, I'm looking at a 2019 Nissan Frontier Pro-X as a replacement for the 2001 Ranger I have. The Frontier only has 27k on the odometer and shows regular oil changes on CARFAX. Any gotchas or issues on these years?

I had a 2007 and only had chain guides replaced, a common problem then which has been remedied. I hauled all kinds of stuff in that truck including a 1300 pound gun safe 150 miles through the PA mountains. Nary an issue. It was a real workhorse. If I was buying another smaller truck, I would very seriously consider another Frontier.

My wife & I recently kept tabs on our son's 2019 Frontier while he was on an extended TDY. His is a 2WD SV model, which he purchased in 2022 when it had 25K miles. Anyway, we recently delivered it to his duty station in northern CA. After keeping it for seven months and driving it over 1800 miles on a four-day trip, I have the following inputs:

- The 4.0L V-6 is sufficiently powerful...and pretty easy to work on for the DIY-types
- The interior was pretty darn comfortable on the long drive, and I'm 6'5" and 250#. No complaints
- This Frontier has the coldest A/C I've ever felt
- Overall trip gas mileage was 20.68 MPG from Corpus Christi to Montery, CA. And an awful lot of that was at 75-80 MPH. Not too shabby
- Factory stereo's bluetooth was very useful to stream SXM while traversing the desolate areas of TX, NM, and AZ
- Engine didn't use a single drop of oil during its stay with us
- We installed running boards for him before the long drive. The truck has pre-installed mounting studs behind the rockers, so installation took about 30 minutes total. Very nice touch

In short, I was pretty darn impressed with this truck. Like Boomer said, if I wanted a smaller truck I'd definitely lean toward a Frontier. Hope your purchase works out for you!

The 2019 is the last of the VQ40DE and 5spd automatic. I'd grab it if you like it and it's what you want. It would be the latest and greatest of the true 2nd gen Frontier. In 2020 they switched to the new GDI VQ38DD and 9spd automatic. Not that those are a bad thing, but If I had my choice, I'd go with a 4.0L and 5AT. In 2022, they switched to the new body style. Same frame/chassis for the most part from 2007 on, just new body/interior.

love my 11 fronty SV 4WD + 6 spd man bought with about 20 thou on it 55 thou now, about 17 mpg + or minus + good power IMO, as noted the 4.0 is a great tried + true tested engine

Thanks everyone. The dealer for one I was really interested in did a bait and switch, and try to add a $1,200 "Reconditioning fee" on top of their online price so I walked. We looked at a few other ones, but they were too rough for what I was looking for. At the last dealer they had a newer unit, low miles, still under warranty, so we ended up picking it up.

In the background you can see the Ranger it is replacing. Yesterday the IAC valve went out so I was replacing it today. The Ranger will be up for sale soon.

Nice! Is it a 2022 or 23? How many miles on it? I own a 2022 S-model crew cab 4x4. I like it a lot. Mine has around 47k miles on it now. I've had zero issues.

I love the new frontiers. Wouldn’t give a squirt of piss for a new rogue though. I’ve been through 3 of them for rentals in the last month to see if I’d wanna replace our 18 with one, and it’s a definite NO!

New truck is a 2023 with only 13K miles on it. I'll check the frame weather permitting this weekend. I already ordered the obligatory maintenance filters, oil, and drain plug gaskets.

Ranger was sold to a nice couple for $4,500 the next day. It had ~147K with the 4.0L, 4WD, and 4.10 axles. Very good mechanical shape.
