You can also snap axles offroad with a locker.

Both wheels spinning.. then suddenly one gets full traction..

Crunch.
Note this was 10+ years ago but from what I remember.
ahead of me someone was getting winched through an icebank
18" ice snow
had a manual so had to keep wheels spinning or clutch
he had the wheels spinning abit was helping to "cut" through the icebank.

Right when he was about to pull through the right rear wheel achieved full traction and snapped the left rear axle shaft.

not loud at all.. wasnt until about 30ft ahead when his wheel was sticking out of the fender 12" we noticed.

Just another reason I like automatic transmission offroad not that it would have prevented this.

For instance?

Some of my vans have the G80, and the sudden disengagement when transitioning from locked to unlocked while turning can cause the rear end to get silly for a second.

A lot of Duramax guys dump the G80 in their AAM 11.5 for the helical gear unit in the Dodge AAM 11.5 due to the jerkiness of the G80 unit.

For me, I can't pick which I prefer. They're both better than open different, that's for sure. G80 is definitely more useful in a true low low traction situation, however.
