Locating filters locally...

i recently purchased a subaru impreza, and went looking for filters. on my list were wix 51344 and 51568, and as many of their equivalents as i could find in various cross-references. as a last resort, i knew pepboys would have an L24458.

i found nothing here in houston. when i made it to pepboys, they not only didn't have the L24458, but also the L14460.

those wix numbers don't appear to be automotive, so the o'reilly's said they weren't in their book, and therefore no orderable.

anyone know where i can get those wix filters? i emailed wix directly asking for help, but no reply in the past 4 days.

last question, someone once posted the URL to a tech data sheet for amsoil filters, but i can't seem to find it. i'm talking about the chart with the bypass spring pressures, dimensions, etc. anyone know where it is?

anyone try/use an SDF36 on a subaru?

Are you asking O'rileys for those part numbers for a Wix filter? Those are Purolator part #'s; they both xref over to the 51344 on Wix's website.

Doing a quick look at the wix website, the correct part # seems to be 51334. These are readily available. It is the same part number specified for my Honda. I assume you know this and are looking for the different filter? The wix site lists forklifts and tractors as using that filter (51344).

ray, you're right! i found out that i can get any WIX number i want from NAPA's website, which is more than i can say for WIX. of course, the two sizes i'm considering at almost $9ea, so i'm not quite ready to pull the trigger yet.

virtuoso, i definitely gave oreilly's the WIX numbers. they showed me in their book how both those numbers are missing. (presumably because they're not automotive.)

tones, correct, the 51344 and 51568 are significantly larger. i think larger fits my subaru without problems. the 51568 seems to have a bypass setting close to the stock filter, too.

i'd still like to hear from people who have actually used these, though. i did a ton of searches but found some conflicting information on this site.

What's wrong with Subaru filters? Why not use them?
