This test machine provides a rapid method of measuring the
load-carrying capacity and the wear properties of lubricants.

The test consists of rotating a test pin between two loaded journals (V-blocks) immersed in the lubricant sample.

There are two common tests run in this machine:

1.) is an EP test (subjecting a test lubricant to increasing loads until a failure occurs) and the other is,

2.) a wear test (subjecting a lubricant to a constant load for a definite period of time while measuring the wear pattern).

A. What is this machine's designation and,

B. What ASTM tests are used with machine?

Guidelines for the Question of the Day:

Faville-LeValley Lubricant tester (Falex) machine.

edit...for ASTM D3233, EP properties of a lubricant.

Commonly called the "Falex Pin and Vee Block" machine this machine
can be used to determine wear and Extreme Pressure properties of lubricants, as for example, gear and manual transmission oils, using various ASTM testing protocols such as D2670, D2626, D3233, D5620.

Good attempts all around, but since at least two ASTM tests and one machine designation were needed, we cannot bestow any rewards. Sorry.
