Little Glenn Cambell and Jimmy Webb for a Good Friday listening

Came across this video with Glenn Cambell and Jimmy Webb. Old, poor video quality, but think some may enjoy this live performance of "Witchita Lineman".

My mother loved that song and I remember her as a beautiful young lady as we listened to that on an old late 50s record player and her other favorite was Bridge Over Troubled Waters by Simon and Garfunkel

It's something else when a song hits its bullseye dead center. There are many...and they don't actually have to be your favorite.

In the case of this song, it's great to hear 2 musicians play but the orchestrations of the hit single version do bring a lot.
Campbell's voice sounded like it hadn't gotten out of bed.

I saw Glen Campbell in concert a total of three times. Amazing artist. To watch him perform Wichita Lineman in front of a full orchestra was a treat for the ears. He once said about that song in a performance-"This was considered a country song, but it has more chords than 5 country songs put together!"

He was part of the Wrecking Crew, (a group of studio musicians-who recorded music for famous artists) and was a member of the Beach Boys when when they were touring.

His voice in the above video isn't the greatest. I guess he had a performance- the night before this appearance-and was tired.

As an aside-a great Documentary to watch is "The Wrecking Crew" available on Prime, Hulu and other streaming services.

That song has been covered by many artists-bands and that’s a true testament to stellar song writing. It made GC career. I’ve always enjoyed this version although an unlikely pairing otherwise….

I saw Glen Campbell perform outdoors at the Red River Ex back in 1986. Great show!

Jimmy Webb is simply amazing. He has written so much good music. The Wiki article on him is interesting.

That song sank its hooks in me in 1968. Even heard through a single, poor quality Plymouth AM radio speaker.....it was a great time for Pop music. It was really great production. The opening bass notes were from one of Wrecking Crew members...Carol Kaye. I don't read music but from what I understand the song is a complicated piece of kit.
