20 vs 30 grade makes little difference on the street. If you have proper film thickness +20%, or +50% it really makes no difference. I wouldn't track the car with the 20 grade and higher oil temps but for street driving it is a non issue, even tuned.

Again grade does not tell a proper story. There is a significant HT/HS difference between a 508 00 and a 504 00 oil and it most certainly could make a difference on a tuned engine. What technical reason would one have for leaving the additional MOFT headroom on the table?

Because, what difference would it make? I said it in my post, safe level is safe level. 2.7 HTHS is no issue unless oil temps get very high. Just because you are X amount "oversafe" doesn't mean anything. You could wear football pads and a helmet to go to the grocery store too, that is more safe than wearing normal clothes.

The EA888 even tuned is really unspectacular. Honda, and Mercedes both spec 0w20 in their high HP 4 cyl. Even tuned the EA888 isnt close to those cars.

So a higher HT/HS won’t hurt anything just as the lower HT/HS won’t help anything. As I said there is no compelling technical reason to use the lower HT/HS oil.

Thanks but I’m sticking to 504 00 in my Tiguan.

Fuel mileage. But I understand you don't care about that.

I also use 504 because that's what the car calls for. If it called for 508 I would use that.

I'm running this same oil now, albeit in the 1.4 but it's good to get a look at the oil.

It appears Liqui Moly changed the formulation? The last UOA has lowered calcium and included magnesium whereas previously it was only calcium. I believe this is the first VW 508 I've seen with magnesium in it.

Oil held up very well which seems to be the norm for any oil approved for VW 508. Thanks for posting!
