No approvals back then, except whatever was the current API (if that) just various grades based on ambient temperature

Best reason I can imagine is to pour it into a Mini.

It has made my engine considerably quieter vs various 229.5 oils I have used prior
But like my old BMW, current approvals are back specified to older models.

Yes, I know. I have used 229.5 and 229.3 oils since owning the car, but last time tried this oil to see if it would make the the engine "smoother". Although it does not have any manufacturer approvals, it's still got to be miles better than what came as a factory fill, so it's not "unsafe" - that's my thinking.
Today I filled the engine with their 20W50 MoS2 mineral variant. Out of curiosity what my "butt Dyno" will/will not perceive.

Here's a UOA of this same oil after 5,500 miles:
Liqui Moly 10W-40 Leichtlauf MoS2; 5,5k mi OCI; 1993 Merc 4.2L
Car driven 80% hwy/20% suburban streets. Very few short trips. Never bumper-to-bumper traffic where I live. I break speed regime all the time :) Zero oil consumption Reason for fuel in the oil is due to, I think, an inherent issue with distributor ignition on my car. When it hasn't been used...
