LG refrigerator not cooling- motor is very hot to the touch

Closed on a home a few days ago. Yesterday, LG refrigerator seemed not cooling so much, this morning confirmed refrigerator not cooling. This model has the LG Linear compressor.

After pulling out the refrigerator, unplugging, and cleaning the coils, did a visual inspection. The compressor is very hot to the touch.

Any thoughts?

How long have you had it? i think there was a class action suit that extended the warranty.

I got my LG linear compressor changed under warranty about a year ago. The warranty is 5 years. Should be a model, serial number and build date on a sticker inside the unit. Call LG, they are responsive and their support service is very good.

The compressor is $$.

Fan motor not running the compressor would be off on a thermal overload. Check voltage at the fan motor probably bad. Unplug the fridge till u get a motor if it has 120 vac.

What brand are you buying? LG makes great washers and dryers, but only OK refrigerators.

LG has 99% compressor failure. If they will replace compressor and pay labor I would have it repaired. But if you must pay labor, $600-$700, I would replace refrigerator. LG & Samsung difficult to get parts and find someone to do warranty repair. Buy Whirlpool built appliances, they have good network of warranty repair men and excellent parts availability.

Just replace the refrigerator, those LG linear compressors are nothing but a headache. Recommend Whirlpool, GE or Frigidaire.

My brother bothered with getting it repaired, it was a headache and then just broke again 3 years later. My dad was smart and just replaced his when it broke.

Maybe dishwasher too. I was about to replace all our appliances, still working in our 16 year old house simply because it was time before things started breaking but decided to buy a whole new house instead

Unless as another posted maybe the internal fan was not working or the unit iced up. Possible IF someone just moved out and had the doors open for a long time.
I would have unplugged it and left the doors open for 24 hours.

Surprised everyone was so nice to LG in here. Knowing full well past compressor issues we bought one in 2023 anyway as well as their washer and dryer. We loved the look and quality feel of the refrigerator and that is all that counted or better said assumed any issues just like any problematic product was cleared up by now.

Most all new refrigerators have inverter or linear compressors, heck never looked into it but might be one the same. The compressors you used to know are gone from all but the cheapest I believe. The new is about energy efficiency and noise. My old ears or even my wife has trouble hearing the refrigerator running. Amazing

This was our counter depth purchased last year. Love it. I’ll be disappointed if it has an issue but other choices for what we wanted were almost zero except for some Samsungs and looks do matter to wife and I

AG, looking at homes was never a hobby. It was simply an education- so I would be better able to pull the trigger when the right match came along.

I did unplug the refrigerator for 24 hours and still no luck. I purchased a used refrigerator and put it in a storeroom at the house until we can sort things out. I am back in Tacoma WA this morning; the fridge and my wife are 1700 miles away. I purchased the premium care warranty through LG, or so I thought. The warranty is actually not a warranty and sold from a Chicago based firm. $850 for three years. Researching the LG compressor, I will likely cancel the warranty and buy another manufacturer fridge.

We bought a house as an "interim" house. We were homeless, living in an Air BNB. I retired four days ago, and not sure where we will end up. Where I find employment. We can use this home as a second home as it was quite affordable (relatively speaking).

Homes with issues are not selling as fast, but I speculate if interest rates drop to the four percent range- non good homes will also sell at premium prices very quickly, as they did until recently.

Oh, I could not agree more but I think you know that. The market here is INSANE and I am not kidding.
There are literally hundreds more homes to be built in our section and they are opening another section a mile away, that maybe 500 or more in a resort community that has been developing for 20 years now.

We got in this new section at a good time, fresh out of the Covid recovery when we bought the homes were loaded with options, the new ones are not, in fact what they build is what you get and even though nice, you get upgraded nothing. Better yet we are near one of a few community pools and the one with the pickleball courts and tennis courts, currently in front of the pool another community center with gym is being built.
Community standards though have to be adhered too which is REALLY cool and we knew at the time of purchase, those standards even fall on the builders, the homes have to be approved, certain grading, space between the homes, plantings on all 4 sides, even landscape plans need to be approved. Dont misunderstand its a middle class to upper sort of retirement golf resort but there are even more upscale then this. For my wife and I it was the holy grail compared to offerings in Florida that we almost bought, would have been a big mistake. I know we do not have money like some in here though we live a good life and right now asset wealthy in the sense of other properties owned by my wife and I that are free and clear but complicated at the present time, though one of them pay nicely enough per month that I do not need to use SS. The other is tied up in another country but will work out.

Anyway, the homes sell faster than they can build. The options stripped out but the price the same. IN fact, new sales contracts are now stopped because they cant get the new roads in fast enough. It amazes us all the time.We were one of the first in this section to move in, the newest were here a few months earlier and there must be gosh, I dont know well over 100 new homes if I had to guess and a couple more hundred to go as the roads get completed

My Samsung barely cooling and 4 month old with hot compressor(I checked) turned out to be a leak so low on refrigerant. Tech knew where to look and had part with him, fixed …

My family was not wound up about food except wife as much as lack of ice!!?

LG used to be "Lucky Goldstar". If it doesn't break, consider yourself lucky. If it does break and you can get them to repair it for free, you get a Goldstar.

Only Whirlpool and Bosch major appliances for me.

Sorry you are having trouble.
I have avoided LG and Samsung appliances due to the many many complaints, failures, and acres of them for sale on CL/FB Marketplace. I've had good success with lower end brands of the same thing, Hotpoint, GE, Whirlpool, etc.
