The 4th of July is a festive time for freedom... and tons of free stuff to do.

I mostly worked...

I went to McCalister's which is a chain restaurant here in the South that recently offered 30 large cups of free iced tea for 30 days. Since my wife is out of town, I managed to get hers as well. A two-fer!

Unsweet with a few lemon slices. Perfect for what was about to become a super sweaty afternoon.

From there I went to a free car wash which was frankly fantastic. They not only offered a free wash that was very thorough, but they also had free towels, glass cleaner, multi-purpose cleaner, tire inflators, deodorizers, floor mat cleaners, and even a compressed air tool which removes leaves and other debris that often gets packed in hard to find places,

I own a dealership and although I enjoy detailing, the weather is a bit merciless right now and my home has no shade. The car I cleaned up was a sky blue 2010 Ford Focus SE. 30 service records. A transmission replaced less than 10,000 miles ago. The owner was well-off, but they were slobs. Slobs! Cleaning up that car still took about an hour and a half but at least the iced tea and car wash canopy kept me cool.

From there I went home, put water with the lemons in the McCalister's cup. Fixed a refrigerator. Walked the dog twice. Read a book. Took pictures of that car, and watched Youtube videos.

Good, organized the toolbox, drove my project Ram to the doughnut place run by a Vietnamese family and got a fresh dozen. Quiktrip to get about 15 gallons of diesel, breakfast tacos, fed the family. Smoked pork chops and potatoes for a few hours in the backyard. Fed the family again. My day is winding down. Work tomorrow. 🎆

Great. Wife got me out of the house early (very unusual) and to the pool for some sun and light exercise. Then we cooked turkey burgers, grilled corn and relaxed after talking to sons and grandkids over the phone since they all live out of town. I watched lots of History Channel special about the settling of the USA! Good documentary called America / The Story of US. I have seen some of it before. Very well made show.

I have today off but Im at home with an upset tummy.I have to work tomorrow in the 110+ heat too
Hope you feel better. I can't believe I used to work 10 hour days in the heat wearing (required) tough made, fire proof coveralls!
Keep yourself hydrated as much as possible. This type weather nothing to mess around with.
I went down one day with heat exhaustion and it took almost a day to fully recover from.

Did some gardening early. Cut the grass, did some topiary. Fixed a few minor things on the old Volvo. Checked in to BITOG. Wound all the clocks, played with my elderly cat, Shopped at Walmart for dinner. Grilled chicken, corn on the cob, made a pasta salad. Drank three beers. Gave in to cupidity and checked the investment accounts. Packed overnight bag, going to the beach house for the weekend. ⛱️ Listening to local fireworks. 🎆

No worries about work tomorrow, I'll just call in again. Retired old farts can do that and not get fired.

It's been decades since we celebrated major governmental holidays like New Years Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day. No disrespect to any of them really. I mourn fallen soldiers and enjoy our country's Freedom 24-7-365.

What holds true to our hearts at home is Faith & Family. So Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve / Day are more special to myself and my wife..

Thanks for your service. USCG + USN !

It rained most of the day, so I haven't been doing much, tried to go for a walk earlier when I thought the rain had let up for the evening, ended up getting soaked. But I'm still feeling pretty good that because yesterday I won a 32" Samsung G8 OLED monitor off one of their Twitch streams.

Paid holiday for me. Enjoyed it with my family and neighbors we done a neighborhood cookout. Surprisingly most of the neighbors around here get a long very well. Met all the new neighbors who have moved in since the last cookout. And watched baseball because that’s the most American sport there is and I love baseball so I watch it every 4th of July. I watch it anytime it’s on but like it on the 4th because it’s all mostly day games.

Annual summer neighborhood meeting with potluck lunch. Then an hour under the Civic buttoning up the transmission re-install, followed by two hours at a county pool sitting alternately in the hot tub, sauna and pool to ease the sore muscles. Light rain by dinner probably cancelled most fireworks shows but I didn't bother to check.

I had about 40 people over for a barbeque, beer and fireworks our yearly tradition. It's a lot of work with all the shopping, cooking setting up but once everyone shows up I'm enjoying. Tomorrow is the misery of now cleaning up with a hangover in the heat never fun.

We spent the whole day on the Point Reyes Peninsula, escaping the hot weather. We saw a fogbow, hiked a few trails, spent time on the beach, and went for a swim. Had pizza and beer.

The picture below is the closest I have to a Fourth of July picture. My wife took it while we were crossing the bridge today.

Hiked in a state park with my wife, nephew and niece than ate at Texas Roadhouse. It was hot and humid yesterday and my nephew wore a hoodie and crocks and had to pick pebbles out of them every 2 minutes. My niece wore a cutoff sweater, leggings plus a backpack with art crap. The only time she doesn't show her stomach is at work. They've been here a month and haven't found anyone their age to hang around yet. My nephew will probably find new friends when he start back at OSU this fall. I don't care if this is inappropriate to show my niece or not. I wish @AutoMechanic would move here and start dating her.
