I think the way they market their vehicles tends to target people who aren't very interested in cars other than as a point A to point B conveyance. They want something that is reliable and that they won't have to give a 2nd thought about. That type of person is the most likely type of person to get into real trouble if the unexpected happens.

On the other hand, I do think the gearshift configuration in some of their vehicles is needlessly confusing, and I've covered that issue in other posts. As well, the gas pedal in those Toyota/Lexus vehicles I've looked at has no pivot where the pedal attaches to the arm and the bottom edge of it touches the floor when pushed all the way down, so that makes it more likely to get trapped by a floor mat.

Because some moderators are entirely happy interjecting the sdame old tired GM/Ford problems as some sort of lame "defense" for Toyota. "But they do it too". childish response I wouldnt accept from a ten year old, let alone a moderator on a car forum....

Here's a comment from another Toyota thread from two years ago....this thread was about the Toyota truck rust issues, but here is the comment we get from some moderators.....

"GM knowingly continued to make 60-deg V-6s for around a decade, consciously deciding that it would be less expensive for them to keep on making them that way."

Same lame excuse Toyota by pointing out issues with other manufacturers.

Despite this, their cars performance speaks for itself. In other words, Toyota has had recalls, albeit probably fewer than most car companies, and it earned those laurels nevertheless.

Agreed. Looking at the numbers broken down my manufacturer from 1990-2010 shows that Ford actually has the most recalls. Toyota and Lexus fall far short of the "recall leaders".

Recall Stats

What about death counts in relation with the recalls?

What, exactly, is wrong with 60-deg V6s?

That is a quote, ask the person who said it.

The point I'm trying to make is that, while I get accused of "making hay". The same moderator seems to find a way to bring Ford or GM into many Toyota recall threads...coincidence? Ask him, when you ask him about the V6 quote from the Toyota rust thread.

I think he was referring to the ~95-03 lower IMG that almost always leaks within 100K miles. GM did take too long to completely fix the issue but generally automakers don't recall things like that which arent safety issues.

If anything, a 60-degree V6 is easier to change the sparkplugs on, and I'll bet that most Toyota V6 engines are 60 degree. At least the last one I looked at seemed to be a 60 degree V6.

That has nothing to do with the engine being a 60 degree V6.

Well I don't know, I agree 60 degrees is the best angle for a V6, but I was just saying I thought ekpolk was bringing up the lower IMG:

But maybe he thinks they suck because they are 60 degree lol?

I had an '88 Toyota pick up that I could nitpick to death. Even if you fixed everything that needed fixed, the general crumminess of it couldn't be fixed. Then there was an '86 RX7...
