To foil an extortion attempt, David Leterman went public thother day about having sex with women he works with.

Never saw that one coming - he 'seemed' like a clean-cut, stand-up guy. Now the deatils are gonna start coming out, and sounds like they could be ugly about good 'ole Dave.

Any BIG Letterman fans here? What say you?

I don't think it's a scandal but it's disappointing. Any time someone has relations like that with subordinates, there is always the chance that it was not all clean and consensual. I am not saying rape but fear that if she doesn't succumb, she will lose her job. Same thing as men having sex with their female bosses.

No Letterman fan, but I hope this does not come out to be a plus for him. I think like Dan Rather and others, he has had a good run, but stayed on a few yeasrs too long. Better to go out on top.

What bothers me more is that the accused was a producer for '48 Hours'. Seems like if the guy would do this sort of thing, how could what he did for the show be credible? What kind of people is CBS hiring and do ethics matter?

I'm thinking he probably won't be as hard on himself as we was on Spitzer when he got caught with a little side action while on the taxpayers payroll and using campaign funds to re numerate Ashley Alexandra Dupre.

Somehow I really don't see Letterman holding himself to the same standard as he did Gov Spitzer.

I don't know but I hope someone on TV jokes about it mercilessly and repeatedly. Just not a fan. I was 20 years ago. Just not now. Sorry, just my opinion.

Perhaps we shouldn't.

But still, if the comedian is the one setting the standard for the governor, shouldn't he live up to that same standard?

That's my point. He was all over Spitzer for his extracurriculars, but I doubt he'll be as hard on himself for essentially doing the same thing.

I agree, Letterman was funnier when I was in college back in the 80's Today, not so much.

Of course my bias is that I am VERY ANTI infidelity. It destroys families and is essentially emotional abuse.

So I feel sorry for his now wife. I suspect this was going on while she was his live-in partner, if not already married to her.

Any word on the timeline of the affair?

He's an idiot. Doesn't change my opinion one bit. The guy (a producer?) who tried to blackmail him was almost as stupid as Letterman. And these people get rich.

Money for sure is not everything.

Letterman jumped the shark a long time ago. Since P isn't allowed on BITOG, I can't refer to the treatment he gave a famous female politician by saying her daughter was "knocked up" by a famous baseball player.

Either way, this guy has mental problems and probably has some sort of sexual addiction and some psychosis. He'll corral what he did into some more fame by joking about it and letting Maher and others carry the water on the sick joke.

Letterman got laid!
He did it with somebody he knew!

Why would I care?? Now, if it was Senator Larry Craig groping under the restroom stall at me that would disturb me!

When people have a consensual relationship in private.... I do not see it as a scandal. Now, extortion, that is a crime.

Live and let live.

why does it matter? something personal that involved him and somebody else tried to extort money out of him because they knew a secret. he did the right thing and went public with it, instead of paying blackmail money to cover it up.

case closed.

Who cares? What people do in private, on their own time and not with my money... I don't see why this is news.

So, how about those Tigers... It they make it past the Twins...

Whatever. I don't care. There are many other things to worry about than a washed-up comedian's personal issues.

I find it's generally not a good idea to have sex with women you employ. Leads to problems sooner rather than later.

He handled the disclosure well last night (on Youtube) ... it's a colossal eff-up to be sure. Esp considering the impact on his wife and child and breaching the employee/employer relationship.

It'll get glossed over. As someone else said, I don't hold a comedian to the same standard that I'd hold an elected official.

Someone else said he looked like a straight laced guy. Hehe, so did Marv Albert. :)

People in glass houses... It would just be another celebrity with his (Worldwide) pants around his ankles EXCEPT for all the insults he's thrown at other people for getting caught with their pants around their ankles

I haven't been much of a Letterman fan for years (decades?) now. He just seemed to get mean, spiteful, and bitter over time, especially after his heart problems. Even with that he had funny moments, but watching his show routinely just felt painful. Leno may have always gone for the obvious corny jokes, but he always came off like a genuinely nice guy. And he likes cars.... :-)

I'm baffled that a woman...any woman would actually have "relations" with a nasty looking man like him. I don't understand that at all.
