And, be aware that a tire's profile can change the handling characteristics of the bike.
When I got my Bandit in '02, after a 10 +/- year layoff from riding, I was amazed that my skills had diminished to the point that it felt like I was "falling into" turns, and had to re-correct mid-turn about every time. Then, after talking to some guys at the Mazimum-Suzuki forum, I changed to Michelin Pilot Roads, and, wow, just totally different from the Bridgestone Battlax (sp?) OEM tires. The B'stones seemed to be a more "pointy" (I guess that's the right term) profile, and the Pilots were more of a gradually rounded profile. The difference was night/day. I actually hadn't forgotten how to ride after all!!
Check around at your bike forum of choice - the guys are usually glad to recommend something.
