Lets talk about Bourbon

Dang, Wheel. Save some for the rest of us, hah!

My parents had a handle of Makers 46 delivered to me along with a mini-keg of beer for my birthday. That stuff is strong. Have not tried the cask strength.
Mmm... Beer! I miss beer. I'm fat so no beer for me anymore! :ROFLMAO:

I've only ever had the regular Maker's. And I don't remember it but that was before I started drinking whiskey. I've said it before, but most normal proof stuff is bland to me, so I tend to go 50% or higher. Looking forward to trying to Makers that I bought and maybe the 46 Cask Strength.

Just wait until I get the bottles that I ordered from Rock'ndaal and another 25th Anni release. I'll be posting pictures of those. Won't be for probably another month though.

Oh, and Happy Birthday!

And the hits keep coming...

I usually stick to light beer when working in the garage or when on the boat. Can only drink so many before they start to lose their appeal.

I believe the regular 46 is slightly less than that but plenty for me. My favorite is Willet but I usually wait until someone gifts me one.

Wife wants to go to Scotland for our 20th anniv. She has been but a long time ago. Not a huge scotch fan but I'm sure I'll have a good time.

Thank you, sir.

First time with Wilderness Trail, because they were again out of my favorite Old Forester single barrel, barrel proof.

This one is “Family Reserve Cask Strength, 114 proof. Bottle #2 of 204. $79.99. If you prefer cask strength to be so smooth on the first sip that Jim Beam burns more, this may be for you. Good nose, Almost entirely bland on sipping for about 3 seconds, then a little sweet caramel and then a slow fire starts to tingle the tongue. Finish has just a hint of roughness, and it really takes an “honest” 2 fingers to really get the full experience.

Overall, it’s not objectionable if you like the taste profile, but it’s pretty different from every other cask strength I’ve tried. As I’ve said, I’m prejudiced for Old Forester, so I personally will only ever have this one bottle. I’d still probably rate it a 6.5 or so, about on par with the standard 86 proof Old Forester for a reference point. Hope you bourbon explorers enjoy!
