If the following does not apply to you, stay out of this thread.

What exactly compells you, as soon as you see any picture that has been posted, to immediately ask with what brand or model camera the picture was taken? What do you hope to gain from knowing that? What is your reason for asking? Maybe, if I understand your reasoning, the question won't bother me. Help me out here, will ya?

Could be just to [censored] you off (personal favorite).

Probably trying to identify a mutual interest (aka just being friendly).

"Oh, you race too? What kind of car(s) do you drive?" (to get those times, or something)
"Oh, you shoot? What kinds of guns do you shoot?" (to get those groups, or something)
"Oh, you cook? What kind of cookware do you use?" (to get those marks, or something)

I want to hear from those who keep asking the same question, Julian. I don't believe you are one of them, so your guess is as good or as bad as mine.

Their mothers dropped them on their heads, it won't help. Sleep tight. : P

They might not know they are all asking the same question, by the way (or that other people have asked it). A good number of folks on here probably know you're into photography, but might not have a (read: make a... or know how to make a) chance to get to know you in that regard any other way. A real answer also might not be something they want to give you.

In that case they should understand how I feel about their question.

Some people are into cameras. If a pic has good contrast with depth, some people who know about cameras like to know what brand camera was used. What brand, mega pixel, lense, ect. . all play out to the quality of the photo. If the photo looks good or bad, camera people like to know what unit did the damage.

Thanks for trying to rationalize, but as I already said, TINY, LOW-RES PHOTOS do not allow judging the equipment in a sensible manner. Besides, taking the worst pictures with the best gear is quite doable.

I am a gearhead myself, but this technical interest is totally separate from picture taking. It appears that for once I am in agreement with Ken Rockwell, which is a scary thought.

Maybe they should learn how to use the cameras they already have. I have also noticed that many of the folks who always ask, "What camera did you use?" never post any pictures.

I've never done this, but I'm pretty postive rg200amp is 100% correct. Some people are passionate about different hobbies.

On here, everyone wants to know: What oil do you run? How long OCI? What weight? What type driving? etc etc.

It would be like posting "Before" and "After" pics on Autopia, but not telling the process or products used.

Likewise, a lot of people are into photography.
