Picked up a new truck this week: 2024 Silverado 2500HD LT
This is replacing a 2020 Silverado 1500 RST.
Pros:
6.6L gas + 10 speed + 3.73 gear makes a very competent combination for towing
Monster payload and towing specs (2x the 1500 specs)
No worries about 8-speed transmission issues
No worries about DFM lifter issues
+12 gallon fuel tank over the 1500
MSRP was actually *less* than the (admittedly more well equipped) 2020 1500 it's replacing
Cons:
6.6L gas + 10 speed + 3.73 gear returns abysmal fuel economy during commutes
It's black, my least favorite color for 100% practical reasons (it's still a handsome truck... when it's clean)
LT trim gets halogen headlights (Have to go to LTZ to get a fancy headlamp in a Chevrolet; All GMC HD truck trims have LED lamps)
No factory 5th wheel puck system (I don't tow a fiver, but it'd be a nice option to have in the future)
Might be too tall to fit in my garage's 7-foot door
This was largely a purchase for towing. While the 1500 handled our current camper very well, this gives us tons of capability head room not only for our current rig, but the next one as well. We're starting to travel further and further away from home, heading further west and further south on longer trips. A bigger truck is never a bad thing. Also, Carvana made a very compelling offer on the 1500. Not going to lie either, 8-speed transmission issues and lifter issues on the 1500 nagged at me as well.
