Let's see how Wix corrects this...

If this was a factory error, it is likely to be HUNDREDS of filters or more ... filters are not hand labelled, nearly everything will be done on an automated assembly line.

That's my point... there are usually multiple steps to verify when putting labels out for manufacturing. It's almost always at least a 2-person verification, along with periodic quality checks that "should" have identified the incorrect label. Also, I would expect they have some kind of visual online inspection which checks the label; we have technology that inspects every inch of a can label and can even identify a slight mismatch in the color plates for "bleed", so I'm just trying to see and understand how it could have been prevented. Visually inspecting the number of holes in the baseplate online is easier than easy....

OP
Go back to O'Reillys and check the inventory. If it's an issue there's probably more on the shelf

That's crazy, I've been using these filters for my OCI's and never had a problem. Oreilly's should easily swap it for you and then send it back to the manufacturer. Keep us posted.

I got a response from Wix today asking the application for the filter. It may have been a bot response, not sure.

I told them the application doesn't matter as the filter removed was the same the filter I attempted to install. I told them I took another filter out of my stash and installed it without issue.

In my experience, Wix customer service is useless. A few years ago I had a Wix 57356 with a weird ding in it that appeared to be from the factory. Box was mint. I emailed them to ask about what to do since I felt it was a factory defect, thinking they'd ask me to mail it in and have them replace it. Nope. They just told me not to use it. I stopped using Wix for a few years because of that.

OP here...

I solved the problem here on my own by going to O'Reillys and exchanging the filter...but that was a trial upon itself. Wix customer service hasn't made a peep in over 24 hours.

I walked to the counter with bad filter in hand and a young man in a construction company sweatshirt behind the counter greeted me, after he finished his text.

I told him I got a bad filter and if he had another on the shelf we could compare and I could show how it's bad. Juan promptly asked the year, make, model of car so he could verify fitment. I mentioned that I removed the very same filter from my car and the markings on the baseplate are different. A short staring contest ensued so I belted out my car and when he came back he said, "that's not the right filter for the car"(It is). I showed him Wix's database on my phone while he typed away.

He ran to the shelf and grabbed the WL10290XP and upon examination I showed him the '22' on the base meant that it was the thread size(22x1.5), and the bad filter was labeled '3/4'.

He removed his non-O'Reillys sweatshirt to reveal that Juan was the "Manager". I had the suspicion that the employees may have just passed around the shirt on different days to feel special.

I will not return to this store because it just reaffirmed the belief that customer service is dead in this country.

Glad you got this mess figured out. Yes, customer service is gone so anymore a person has to look out for themselves 100% of the time.

As far as Wix, I've never personally been impressed with their oil filters so never used them.

Like I said before, the Mann & Hummel effect is getting stronger-which is a shame, because Wix made, and hopefully in the future will STILL make, some top quality filters. Unfortunately they have joined the race to the bottom.

Also, unless they're running a spectacular deal, O'Reilly stores seem to be the most expensive & useless of the big 3 AP chains (AAP #1, AZ #2, O'R bringing up the rear by a lot).

I used my $5 off $10 coupons to buy this normally $12 filter. So RockAuto prices without the wait and shipping. I've never bought anything there besides deals and clearance.

I would be using the Fram Ultra but they have been slow getting the XG12060 to market. All I've seen are TG's. It has the 22psi bypass that my GM vehicle requires.

Terrible store experience if you ask me. Call corporate and complain. These "managers" are not being reviewed etc. I'm sure corporate would like to know.
Aside from that... I've always used WIX/NAPA filters and never had any problems. Reading this, I wonder now... My most recent WIX was an "M&H" sealed unit that didn't resemble the rest of the stock on the shelf. It was a sealed box. I'm glad I bought that one instead of the others.

Glad you got it straightened out but this thread has run it course.
