On a visit to my son stationed at NAS Whidbey Island I went with him to Les Schwab because he needed front brakes. They still had about 5000 miles meat left on them but I advised him to have them done. The rotors were good, no caliper leaks everything working properly.
They pulled a wheel off the front and quoted over $650 to do the front brakes. They wanted to do brakes, calipers, and rotors. I said just do the pads I don't need all those extras they're in good shape. The exact quote I got was this: "we can't give our 25,000 mile warranty without replacing those parts". I asked about doing the job w/o a warranty, and they said they don't offer it that way. I said put the wheel back on and lets get out of here. We did the job on the Navy base for about $40.
Maybe I caught a service writer trying to make high gross. Maybe on a BMW they always change calipers and rotors with a brake job? The car has over 100K and the rotors were changed with the last brake job. Maybe they're different with their tire deals?

In my experience Schwab deals primarily with Toyo brand tires and some other generic or private branded tires. They seem to have a very strong following in the states where their stores are. I'd suggest checking out Discount Tire (there is a store in Everett) as they deal with almost all the major manufacturers. They should be able to warranty your Yoks for weather related checking as long as the tires are not over 4 years old...even if you did not purchase them from Discount Tire!
synormin- any idea how far this tire place in Everett is from NAS Whidbey. I would like to see my son get some tires on the BMW before winter sets in, and would prefer him dealing with someone other than Les Schwab.
